Public Meeting.—The citizens of Morgan coun
ty who are dissatisfied with the Tickets for President and
Vice President presented hy the National Conventions, and
who are favorable to the running of a Third Ticket in this
State, are requested to meet at the Court House in tire town
of Madison, at 10 o’clock, A. M., on the first Tuesday in
AUGUST next, for the purpose of sending Delegate's to a
Convention called, to be held in the city of Macon, on the
17th of August next.
It is high time that the people should resume thei. Con
stitutional right of selecting their Officers. It has been
exercised by tricksters and office seekers long enough.

COTTON. — We hear of a few transactions to-day at for
: mer rates.
SAVANNAH, Jn.y 22. — Cotton. —Arrived since the loth
instant, 848 hales Upland, and 12 bales Sea Island. The
exports for the same period amount to 1,440 hales Upland,
viz: to New York, 1,404 bales Upland ; and to Charleston,
80 bales Upland—leaving on hand and on ship-board net
cleared, a stock of 4,556 bales Upland and 58 do. Sea Island,
against 8,09 S bales Upland and 376 do. Sea Island at same
time last year.
Daring the week just closed, our market has remained
in the same quiet and inactive state noticed in our last
weekly report. On Tuesday there was a little demand —
the sales amounting to IIS bales at irregular prices. On
Wednesday four days’ later dates from Liverpool came to
hand by the America.
The stock on sale is very light, and there being but little
demand we are unable to give quotations. Prices- are al
together nominal.
The sales of the week amount to 276 bales : 8 at S; 79 at
Rice. —There is but little demand for this article; the
stock is light. Sales 150 casks at $4 100 tt>s. Exports
of the week amount to 230 casks, all coastwise.
Flour. —The market continues well supplied, with fair
demand. Sales of Baltimore brands have been made from
store at $4 50 © 44 75 p. bbl., the latter ligure for small
lots.
torn. The stock on the market continues large, and
the demand being limited it works off but slowly. Sales in
lots from store at 68 © (0 cents, according to quality and
quantity, and retail at 75 cents bushel.
Hay.-— Sales of Northern, from wharf, have been made at
80c. We hear of a sale of 100 bales Eastern, to arrive at
41; it retails from store at 41 25 ’Jj) cwt.
Bacon.— We hear of sales of 75 hhds. Shoulders at 9Vc.

WUX BE sold at the-Lower Market House in the
T> City of Augusta, within the usual hours of sale on
the first Tuesday in October next, the Plantation known as
The Rowell Place, lying seven miles below Augusta, and
containing about seventeen hundred acres, of which six
hundred are first quality bottom Land on the Savannah
River.
This place is not excelled hy any in healthfulness and
beauty of situation, fertility of soil and facilities for the suc
cessful planting ot Corn and Cotton. One thousand Acres
of it are inclosed, the greater part of which is now under
cultivation.
The line of the Augusta and Y\ ayncsboro’ Railroad passes
within a half mile of the Dwelling House ; and a jrortioii of
the Plantation Is traversed by Butler’s Creek, which furnish
es a valuable water-power. The whole volume of the Creek
can he used at one point with a full of eight feet without a
pond. The lands on both sides of the Creek, for a mile from
I the mouth, belong to tl.. date. And on the River is a
good Shad Fishery, easy of access and has been fished this
season.
It will afford me pleasure to show the place to all who
may favor me with a call,and give them all the information
iu my power.

PROSPECTUS OF THE
SAVANNAH COURIER.
A YEW DAILY, TBI-WEERLY ASP WEEK-
J V LV NEWSPAPER, devoted to the advocacy and de
fence cf the Commercial, Social, Agricultural, Manufac
turing and Internal Improvement Interests of the South,
and to the development of Home Industry and Home Re
source!-; —Conservative ip every thing—independent—but
not Neutral in politics. Open to communications on both
sides, at the discretion of the Editor.
Terms— Daily paper, per annum—Tri-weekly, $4 per
annum—Weekly, double sheet, *2 per annum. Six copies
of Weekly, to same Post Office, $10; nine copies, sls;
twenty copies S3O. Advertisements inserted upon the
same terms as in the other leading city papers. Payments,
for the Tri-weekly and Weekly paper, and for transient
advertisements, must be made in advance ; for the Daily
paper, semi-annually, in June and December, and for con
tract advertisements, as per agreement. All contracts to
be in writing, and all subscriptions to cease as soon as the
money is exhausted. Legal advertisements of County Offi
cers, Executors, Administrators, Ac., inserted on the usual
terms.
The Daily and Tri-weekly Courier will contain as much
reading matter as any other paper In the city, while the
Weekly Courier will be the largest sheet ever issued in
Georgia. The latter will be gotten up especially for Fami
lies a .it for country readers. It will have an extensive cir
culation in the interior counties, and must therefore become
a most desirable medium for advertisements.
The Courier will not .be a partizan press. The under
signed reserves to himself the right to praise or censure
the men and measures of all parties, aud to do even-hand
ed justice to all, regardless of their political associations.
He will wear no party fetters, but at the same time will
never conceal his preferences and predilections. In the
present campaign he will favor the election of Messrs.
Pierce and Xing, believing them to be “ honest, compe
tent, and faithful to the Constitution’’—to be good Union,
Compromise men—occupying a good Union, Compromise
platform—sustained by the conservatives of the North,
and richly deserving the support of all parties at the South.
He will also give a cordial, hearty support to the present
Chief Magistrate of Georgia, believing that his past acts,
ids present administration and his devotion to the Union,
entitle him to the praise of the wise and good, and will yet
win for him the confidence of the nation.
The undersigned deems it unnecessary to say more. He
is not unknown to the people of Georgia, with whom he ha*
held editorial intercourse, and for whose kind and liberal
patronage, heretofore bestowed, he is profoundly thankful.
He has established the Courier upon a permanent basis,
and is resolved to make it worthy of popular support. The
arrangements lor local and foreign news are ample, and
will be extended to meet the utmost demands of the public.
The first number will be issued on the 26th inst., or as soon
thereafter as the necessary office arrangements can be per
fected. Post Masters and others who will obtain subscri
bers and remit the money, will be allowed the usual per
