CHRONICLE & SENTINEL JESSIE CARROL. B y ALICE CARKY. Down the heath and o’er the moorland, Blows the wild gusts high and higher, Suddenly the maiden pauses Spinning at the cabin fire, And out from her taper fingers Falls away the flaxen thread, As some neighbors entering whispers, “ Jessie Carrol lieth dead.” Then, as pressing close her forehead To the window pane, she sees Two stout men together digging Underneath the church-yard trees; And she asks in kindest accents, “ Was she happy when she died ?” Sobbing all the while to see them Void the heavy earth aside ; Or upon their mattocks leaning. Through their fingers numb to blow, For the wintry air is chilly, And the grave-mounds white with snow; And the ne ghbor answers softly, “ Do rot, dear one, do not cry At the break of day she asked us If we thought that she must die ; And when I told her sadly That I feared it would be so, Smiled she, saying “ Twill be weary Digging in the church-yard snow !” “ Earth,” I said, “was very dreary— That its path at best was rough And she whispered, she was ready, That her life was long enough. So she lay serene and silent, Till the wind that wildly drove, Soothed her from her mortal sorrow. Like the lullaby of love. Punctuality. —’Washington was a minute man. An accurate clock in the entry at Mount Vernon controlled the movement of the family. At his dinner-parties he allowed five minutes for differ ence of watches, and then waited for no one. If members of Congress came at a late hour, his sim ple apology was, “ Gentlemen, we are too punctu al for youor, “ Gentlemen, I have a cook who never asks whether the company has come, but whether the hour has come.” Nobody ever waited for (reneral ft ushington. He was always five minutes before the time; and if the parties’he had engaged to meet were not present at the season ap pointed, ho considered the engagement cancelled, and would leave the place and refuse to return. Cuba Slave Trade. —The New York Tribune says :—lt appears from late developments that the Slave trade is still active, and it is carried on in ports where such things have not been imagined, under the guise of ordinary mercantile transac tions. A number of the vessels intended for these expeditions are said to have been fitted out from ports on our Atlantic coast, while the crews have in some instances been shipped in New York. A Female Operator. —Miss Susan R. Suther land, of Newark, Wayne County, New-York, a handsome young ladv, is the regular operator of the Morse telegraph line at that place. She was taught by her brother the mysterious dots and dashes, who is also an operator. There are, we understand, several female operators in the coun try. One at Washington, on the Western line, is staled to be a very accomplished lady. NEW BOORS, &c7 NEW MUSIC. Remedies in stopping pain, removing its causes, and curing the most obstinate complaints. Yet there is no mystery in it —there is nothing miraculous about it. True, until the R. R. R. Remedies were introduced, no remedy or medicine was ever known to stop the most torturing pains in a few seconds, and allay the most violent Cramps of Cholera, Neuralgia, Spasms, &c., in a few minutes. Radway’s Ready Relief will stop pain instantly, because it produces a counter-ac tion upon the parts where, pain is fqlt. If the Patient suf fers from Neuralgia, it immediately acts upon the nerves, produces a counter irritation, invigorates the nerves, and imparts vitality to the parts where pain is experienced. The action of the Relief is quick, and the very moment it is applied, it begins to counteract the effects produced by diseased action. If you are the victim of Cholera, it acts instantly—taken internally, it settles the stomach and allays all painful irritation and sickness, it infuses heal into the blood, and its warm and healthful influence thrills through every portion of the body ; it neutralizes the poi sonous malaria of Cholera and checks its progress. Ap plied externally, it allays Cramps and Spasms, and restores the cold-cramped, and almost lifeless victim, to. life and health. If you are troubled with Sick Headache, the Ready Relief taken internally wifi neutralize the acid of the stomach, make the stomach sweet and pure, and the breath fragrant; externally, it will produce a counter ac tion on the scalp and refresh the senses. This, then, is all the mystery about the action of R. R. Relief; it does not lie in the action of the Relief, but in the science of its chemical and pharmaceutical combination. So with each of the other R. R. R. Remedies. The Resolvent acts in like manner upon the blood, and the diseased deposits, re novating and resolving away from the system all scrofu lous humors and poisonous deposits. RAD WAY’S REGULATORS.—For regulating the organs of the system and securing a regular action of each ; free ing the'bowels from all retained humors, Assisting the sto mach, aiding the digestive organs in their functional du ties, the liver to secrete its bile, and the kidneys and blad der their urine ; the bowels to discharge their burden, and the skin to emit a free ami healthy perspiration. Such are the effects the R. R. R. Remedies have upon the system, and the mystery of their curing the sick so quick. , R, R. R. Remedies are for sale by Hruggists generally. TJERHAPS there is nothing more calculated to disgust X tlie public eye than the innumerable advertisements of the nostrums that are constantly appearing in the public prints. All are ready to exclaim, Our souls are sick, our ears are pained with every days reports of ills and speci fics. . This state of the public mind would seem to forbid any person of delicate mind from sending forth any new dis coveries in medicine to the trial of the public : still motives of delicacy should not prevent us from making known real discoveries, which we are confident will benefit our lellow men. This latter consideration has prompted the author of these Bitters to mak.. them known. He knows they are highly efficacious, for he himself, his wife, and many friends have given them a thorough trial. He was, for many years, a confirmed dyspeptic —so much so that even his recollec tion was gone, but by the use of these Bitters he has been restored to perfect health.
