New Orleans, Dec. 9.—The obsequies of the lamented Calhoun, Clay and Webster, were solem nized at New Orleans on Thursday with great splendor. The procession was the largest ever known in that city. All places of public and pri vate business were closed, and the same, together with the dwellings of citizens, were dressed in mourning. The church and lire alarm bells were tolled, and minute guns were fired during the day, Irom the heal of Cana! street. The masters of vessels and steamboats in port, and the proprie tors of the various public buildings in the city dis played their colors at half-mast, from sunrise to sunset. The eulogy delivered on the Hon. John C. Calhoun, el Lyceum Hall, by Chief Justice Hall, was greatly admired for its’ eloquence and truthfulness. New-Orleans, Dec. 11, P. M.—The brig Tehuan tepec, from Vera Cruz, on the sth, brings dates from Mexico to the Ist of December, eleven days later. A proposition has been made by individuals to build the Tehuantepec railroad for 110,000,000, ta king Mexican bonds in payment, afterwards to be paid by earnings of the road. The Government regards the proposition favorably, and has rejected all made before. Nothing later respecting the revolutionists. The American brig Mechanic, and cargo, were totally lost at Coslzacoalco, on the 13th of Novem ber. Baltimore, Dec. 12.—The United States Mail Steam Ship Illinois Captain Hartetein, has arrived at New York from Aspinwall, with two millions and a half in gold. She brings, however, nothing later from California. Baltimore, Dec. 12.—Cotton in Nov/ York on Saturday was dull with a downward tendency, and 650 bales changed hands. The decline during the last few days is quoted at from an eighth to a quarter of a cent. New-Orleans, Dec. 9.—On Wednesday, 7000 of Cotton were disposed of. Prices were easy and irregular. On Thursday, in consequence of that day having been appointed for the celebration of the Obsequies of Calhoun, Clay and "Webster, business was entirely suspended. The brig Clio, Capt. ‘ Caine, has cleared for Charleston. Destructive Fires in California.—A fornight’s later news from California has been received by the arrival at Now Orleans of the steamship Philadel phia, which brings San Francisco dates to the 16th November. The Presidential election passed off quietly, and resulted in favor of the Democratic ticket, which, it is stated, obtained a majority of about fifteen thousand votes. The city of Sacramento has been visited by a very disastrous lire, which is reported to have laid the entire city in ashes, with the exception of a few houses. It was attended with the further calamity of the loss of many lives in the effort to check the flames, and the loss of property is sta ted to be immense. Destructive fires had also occurred at San Fran cisco and Marysville. Further Partictlaes of the California Fires, &c. —Sew Orleans, Dec. 10.—The fire at Saciamen to broke out in 1 street and spread crossing Third, K, L andM streets, iayiug bare the whole interven ing space oetweea N street south, and J street north, and all between Front and Tenth street, comprising about forty blocks. By {this terrible ca lamity nine-tenths of the population are rendered houseless. The Stale Capitol saved, but the Democratic State Journal Office and the State Hospital were both destroyed, the patients at the latter place were suffering dreadfully. Three hundred and fifty buildings haa been put up since the fire. The fire at San Francisco broke out November 10th, at the corner of Merchant and Kearney streets, spreading down the South side of Clay street, both sides of Kearney street and Merchant street, destroying about So buildings. The loss was estimated at £150,000. The fire at Marysville*, November 7th, rcom menced on First street, destroying every building on the North side, Eastoi Maiden Lane. It soon ’ swept every building between Maiden lame and C r street, and between Ist and ‘2d streets, including the American Hotel. Larce Honse, Marysville Hotel, i New World House, and several livery stables, breweries and stores. The loss is very heavy. : Ths State elections in California had resulted in the choice of 5 Democrats and 7 Whigs to the Senate, and 4i Democrats to 17 Whigs in the 1 House, three Districts remained to be heard from.
