OF FORT MOULTRIE AND
CASTLE PINCKNEY.
Charleston, Dec. 28.—The Palmetto flag was
Tamed early yesterday afternoon over the Custom
Mouse and Post Oflice. At five in the afternoon
the Palmetto flag was raised at-Castle Pinckney.
A large military force went over last, night to take
Fort Moultrie. The ball has opened —chassex
round.
[second dispatch.]
Charleston, Dec. 28.—Fort Moultrie and Castle
Pinckney were taken by Carolina lass night at 8
o’clock.
KENTUCKY LEGISLATURE.
Franktort, Dec. 28. —The Governor of Ken
tucky called an extra session of the Legislature,
to meet on the 17th January next.
J,ATER.FROM MEXICO.
New Orleans, Dec. 27. —The latest advices
from Mexico state that Lerds Delegada was the
favorite candidate for President, and Seumbora
tor Governor.
The reception of the secession news from the
United Mates at Vera Cruz caused an excitement
amongst the naval officers there.
MARKETS.

Grkat Excitement ani> Inbionation. —At an
early hour yesterday morning telegraphic- advic
es were received from Uharleston, announcing
the news of the evacuation of Fort Moultrie, aud
the demolition of its gun-carriages, aud the spik
ing of the guns. The intelligence acted like an
electric shock on our city, and thrilled through
the community like lightning. Groups of citizens
might be seen through the streets discussing the
matter, and venting their indignation on s.uch a
hostile movement. There is but one sentiment on
the question, and that is of indignation and re
sistance. Georgia feels that the cause of Carolina
is her cause, and their fate must be the same. If
the Federal Government expects to have no State
but Carolina to coerce into submission, it will j
find itself wonderfully mistaken. This step has
decided the matter ot secession in every south
ern State, and nothing less should satisfy them.—
We might have been quieted by the adoption of a
milder course, but there are none of us so degra
ded as to_submit to be whipped into submission.
Savannah Republican, 28 th.
Alabama Election.— A dispatch from Mont
gomery late last night, says, tho returns received
up to this time, show the election of straight out
“separate State secessionists” by Autauga, Bibb,
Barbour, Butler, Chambers, Dallas Henrv, Lownd
es, Macon, Mobile, Perry, Russel, Talladega, Wil
cox and Montgomery counties. Coosa couuty
elected co-operationists. — Columbus Sun, 27 ih.
Fatal Difficulty. —We regret to learn that a
difficulty occuredin the neighborhood ofWilliams
tou, in this county, on Friday night last, in which
G. J. McMurray, Esq., of Clayton, one of the edit
ors of the Banner, received a wound from a pistol
ball which caused his death on Sunday. The af
fair grew out of offensive words at a social enter
taiument. Mr. J. A. Dußo.se has been arrested
on a charge of murder, and thrmatter will under
go a legal examination. We therefore forbear
any statement of the particulars at present. Mr.
McMurray was a gentleman of talents, who had
just commenced professional life, and his death
will cause universal regret. —Etif aula (Ala.) Spir

A COMPOUND remedy iu which we have labored to pio
-most effectual alterativf that can be marie, it is
a concentrated ext met of Para Sarsaparilla, so combined with
other substances of still greater altenofre power ns to afford an
effective antidote for tne diseas s SMsaparilla is reputed to
cure. It is believed that such a renigtiy is wanted by those
who suffer from Strumous compluiutsvand ti.at one which will
accomplish their cure must pr ve of Immense service to this
large class of our afflicted feliow-citizoun. How completely this
compound will do it has been proven 5v experiment on many
of the worst cases to be found of the fopo wing complaints :
Scrofula and Scrofulous Ooniplaiiits&Eruptions and Eruptive
Diseuses, Ulcers, Pimples, Blotches,'Tumors, Salt Rheum,
Scald Head, Syphilis and Syphilitic Affections, Mercurial Dis
eate, Dropsy, NeuralKa or lie Douloureux, Debility, Dyspep
sia and Indigestion, Erysipelas, Roselor St. Anthony’s’Fire,
and indeed the whole class of complaints arising from Impuritv
oftlie Blood.
This compound will be found a great promoter of health,
when taken in the spring, to expel thtffoul humors which fes
ter in the blood at this season 01 the war. By the timely ex
pulsion of them many rankling disordfes are hipped in thu bud.
Multitudes can, by the aid of this remedy, spare themselves
from the eudurance of foul eruptions ’ aud ulcerous Eores,
through which the system will strive ® rid Itself of corruptions,
if not assisted to do thiiiJhrough the natural channels of the
body by an alterative medicine. Cleanse out the vitiated blood
whenever you find its impurities bursting through the skin in
pimples, eruptions or sores ; cleanse it when you find it is ob
structedand sluggish in the veins; cleanse It whenever it is
foul, and your feelings will tell you when. Even where no
particular disorder Is felt, people enjoy better lualth, and live
longer torclcausing the blood. Keep the 1 lood healthy, and all
Is well; but with this pabulum of life disordered, there can be
no lasting health. Sdoner or inter something must, go wrong,
and the great machinery oflife Is disordered or overthrown.
Sarsaparilla has, and deserves much, ti e reputation of accom
plishing these ends. But the world has been egrcgrlouaiy de
ceived by preparations of it, partly because the drug alone has
not ail the virtue that is claimed lor it, but more because many
preparations, pretending to be concern ruled extracts of it, con
tain but little of Hie virtue of Sarsaparilla, or any tiling else.
During late years the public travel sen misled'by large bot
tles, pretending to give a quart of E?tract of Sarsaparilla lor
one dollar. Most of tließe have boeajbuids upon the sick, lor
they not only contain little, If any, tSp.aparilla but, often no
curative properties vvhaha'nr. Hetssfefeator .iuo
point mem has ftiitowcrt the use orfnevartotts extracts of Sar
saparilla which flood the market, until the name itself is Justly
despised, and has bec-.me synonymous with imposition and
cheat. Still we call this compound Sarsaparilla, and intend to
supply such a remedy as shall rescue the name from the load of
obloquy which rests upon it. Andwethink we have ground
for believing it has virtues wr leh are irresistible by the ordinary
run of the diseases It is intended to cure. In order to secure
their complete eradication from the system, the remedy ■ hould
be judiciously taken according to directions on the bottle.

FOR BEAUTIFYING THE HAIR,
The great celebrity and the Increasing demand for this une
qualled preparation, convinces the proprietor that one trial is
only necessary to satisfy a discerning public ofitssuperiorquali
ties over any other preparation at present in use. It. cleanses
the head and scalp from dandruil and other cutaneous diseases;
causes the hair to grow luxuriantly, and gives it a rich, soft,
glossy ami flexible appearance; and also where the hair is
loosening and tlflnnlng,lt will give strength and vigor to the
roots, and restore the growth to those pans which irave become
bald, causing It to yield a fresh covering of hair.
There are hundreds (ft Ladles aud Gentlemen in i .iw York
who have had their hair restored by the use of the Invigorator,
when ail other preparations had failed. L. M. has in his pos
session letters innumerable testifying to the. above facts, from
persons of the highest respectability. It will effectually pre
vent the hair from turning grey until the latest period of life;
and in cases where the hair has already changed its color, the
use of the Invigorator will certainly restore it to its original
hue, giving it a dark, glossy appearance. Asa perfume for the
toilet and a lialr Restorative, it is peculiarly recommended,
having an agreeable fragrance ; and tne great facilities it affords
ln dressing the hair, which, when moist with the Invigorator
can be dressed in any required form so as to preserve its placo,
