The world i* waiting with anxious expec

gislature of the United States: The people
of America having set an original example
by adopting fn peace, without force, fraud,
or furprize, a constitution, Ample, plain, and
competent to their exigences, a doubt cannot
remain, but that all the afts and doings of
the Legislature wiil be -such a comment upon
its principles, as will give it that complete
force and operation, which will crown the
wilhes of this great people.

** Since the adjournment of the late gene
ral court, a new and important aera has com
menced ; the. government of the United
States in America has been completely or
ganized—at the head of our infant nation i 3
placed, by the united voice of his country,
one who froirrhis piety wisdom and ability,
is evidently designated by heaven to unite the
a flexions of all his fellow citizens, and thus
united, to lead them to national glory and
felicity.
From the charafters which form the two
branches of Congtefs, we mull poflefs the
highest confidence iy that aflembly, and are
led to anticipate from their measures, the
blessings of that security and dignity, which
at all times are the result of national wisdom,
integrity and justice i and I believe, that the
good people of the great confederated repub
lic, may allure themselves that the principles'
upon which the rfvolotiorf-yvas fupponed.,;
will so forcibly, infinuat.e themselves into all
the measures of that august LegiHutu e,
no place will be opened to those ideas of n>o. B
narchy aqd despotism which have long fcourg
cd other parts of the world. >
<« But it ought ever to be remembered, that
no form of government, or'mode of adini
mftration, can make a vicious people happy ;
and that therefore, .the public felicity in
a great measure/ wilMeptnd upon-the efer
cife of the social and private virtues, by the
people of this extensive republic.”
