It is probable that this cir cumftancc occasioned the error, which the federal prints have seized with avidity as a pretext /or libelling the confiftencv and ■* charaftcr of the administration. Unfortu nately,'however, for them, no such treaty has b:en formed, nor do we believe that any overtures to forru fueh a treaty has on ’ our part been made.
