Extraftofa letter from Charles Martin, esq. pofi'-maHer at Waterford, Erie coun ty, to a vent!ewan in London, dated De cember 3. “ Judson and Ifaao Barren arc just recur ned from Detroit. They bring bad news from that place--that the Indians are gath ering in force and threaten Detroit with a second conflagration. _ The people are in great alarm, and turning out to arms in eve ry direction. If they had not come away the day they did, they would have been en rolled in the militia next day." BALTIMORE, December 24.^ ' An unfortunate difference prevails in the territory of Upper Louifiann, between the Governor and (Gen. Wilkinfoa) and the judges (Lucas and Eafton) of the gcaera! court. It seems the governor had com nii.firmed James L. Dnnaldfon, Efq.* as diftrift attorney, but he was refuted to be recognized by the court, after repeatedly procuring his commission. The Grand Jury took the matter into confideralion, and re monftiated against it ; and have likewise brought forward a charge against one ot the judges (Ea-xon) for swindling particularly in the case of a poor man by the name of David Fine, residing near the river Merri mack, who lias a wife and teven children, and whom, the said judge Eafton did (fay the grand jury) “ some time in the month of May lad, being then a judge of the terri tory of Louisiana, under the most fraudulent pretence obtain from, a deed for about 600 acre* or land without gmog him any con fideraticn for die fame." When the court found that the grand jury were going on to examine witpdtes to eftabiith this fraud c gainfi Eafloo, they ordered the jurors out of a convenient room wherein they fa*-, and • compelled them (21 in number) to fit “ ia a room of dimenlions scarce fufficient to con tain their bodies, being no mere than n feet by 8 and an half feet. “ Some of th« jurors aofnalld fainted in this confinement. It teems it was owing to a detection of Eafton's nefarious praftices by general Wil kiufon, that the court was so inveterate againfl: his appointment of a diftrift attorney. The harfti con Just of the court to the jury however, did not break the spirit of the latter, who have pubiifhed a full repretenta tion of the whole affair to the world. Rep.
