Minor and Dr. Vliilip Tliorn- btuy, bo a ooininittoo, on tho part of tho Club, to represent t heir interest in a primary mooting to bo hold with a view to modify tho organiza tion oi tho Jefferson and Louisville Agricultuial Association. Iho question, “ Open or oloso stables; which is better lor our Uimuto,” was then taken nr and discussed. 1 Mr. Theodore Brown, in speaking on this question, said he did nut agree with the Eastern agricultural papers which uniformly recommend ed close stables as food-saving and healthful to the horses Irani keeping the animal heat at a regular temperature, allowing only ventilators over the horses for fresh air in summer, lit' Bunks difference of climate requires a different construction with us. Our cold season is short 1 tho most trying time with us is the long summer spells of hot weather, when the horses ire at work. r llieu all the ventilation possible s necessary, and he generally feeds in the open lu, dfl surrounding his stables on three sides, where the air circulates freely. Hu lias used box stalls to avoid the danger of tying bv tin? nook, constructed to hold a plough team.* His oliiot objeoiion to these is the obstruction of ventilation. \\ lien he has fed in thorn in the summer has fouud the horses come out hotter than when they went in steaming with sweat.— 1 lore there was no rest, hut rather exhaustion iustend. Ills stable is thirty feet square, with stalls along both sides. The stalls toward the entrance wore cool and eoiuiortablo but the boxes iu the centre were quite too warm. Uses chains across the entrance ol boxes to facilitate ventilation. Gov. Meriwether said the feed was more cost ly Last, and therefore a saving of it was an ob ject; but ho uniformly found close stables here an injury to tho horses. His stables are more open than his neighbor’s, constructed of open logs without any filling between. Those kept in a close stable sweat, and, being so warm when biought out to inhale the cooler atmosphere, lung lover results, lie has been exceedingly fortunate in tho matter of horses, in twenty years, only losing one horse save from old age. Has three stables, eighteen feet long by twelve feet, wide, and ten feet apart, with shed all around extending ten fept from the stables.— One roof covers all. He then felt her trembling under him, and when she moved un steady upon her fore-legs, dismounted, and saw they were shaking under her; took her to tho furrier dose at hand and had her shoes taken off. He said she had foundered. Sho could not walk for three months after; tried blistering and rubbing with coal oil; but the blister would not raise. He attributed the whole thing to the three weeks’confinement in the dose stable. The President, in course of conversation, gayiMthe following as an infallible cir e for botts which ho has used since 1820: Take three balls of nox vomica— four will kill, three cures -pul verize fine and administer with molasses 'or su gar and milk. Can lie had pulverized at any apothecaries. To get the exact quantity put the three crude halls in one s-ala and their weight of the pulverized in the other. Has never known this to fail to cure in a few min utes. The existence of botts is denied, but this remedy applied to the affection known by that name is invariably a remedy. Suppose that its effects in colic should also* be soothing -colic being intlamination of the intestines and botts inflammation of the inner coat of tho same caused by the adher.-nce of the worm, so-called. For colic his specific is bleeding as long as the animal can stand up under it. Thiif seldom fails to cure in a short time, though naturally leaving weakness for a few days. Messrs. In laying a garden for fruits and vegetables, place everything in drills or rows, so that tbev may be cultivated by a horse, and thus save the expense of hard labor. When board fences become old and the boards begin to como off, nail upright facing strips upon them against each post, and the hoards will bo held to their places nnd the fence last several years longer. fcow Oats Early.—We know some most suc cessful oat-growers, who sow late in August.— They thereby are quite suro to escape the rust If this' can be effected, tho oat will beoome a most valuable orop, and we suggest the impor tance of trying the experiment of sowing dur ing this month.
