THE DAILY TIMES.

Our Advertiaing Friends.
Our advertising friends will please hand in j
their favors by 4 o’ciock.
Letter from Col. Hines Holt.
w e commence to-day, and will conclude in our j
he publication of the reply of Col. Holt, to
an article which recently apt eared in the Colum
bus Enquirer, over the s g iature of “ Truth.” We
regret that we cannot give it entire in one isrue of
our Daily. Its le. g h forces us to divide it.
Whatever may be thought of its argumen sand
conclusions, we are sure it wili be commended by
all for ita admirable temper, and the ingenuou-ncss
with which its position-* are stated and maintained.
To ourselves, we conies?, its tacts and reasoning
are satisfactory. Whether from the former, thß
strict, technical letter of the law’ would declare
the stockholders still liable, we do not know;
but if so, they are liable wishout any admixture or
taint of fraud. In relation to that portion of the
chaige which referred to him-olf, we think the
reply of Col. Holt abundantly successful. The
venerable and able editor of the Corner Stone,
who holds many otherthings in memory, produ
ces the following additional evidence in exbonora
tion of Col Holt from the charge of persona! in
terert in those Bank decisions. He says, in his
last issue, “so far R3 Col Holt is concerned, it may
be as well for us to state here a fact which has
perhaps escaped his recollection, which is, that on
the 6:h November, 18C9, he advertis’ and that “ho
had sold and transferred all the Hock he had
held in the Planters and Mechanics Bank,” which
advertisement was regularly published for nine 1
successive weeks in the Georgia Argus —a paper
at that time published by us, and which, at that
time, had a large ciiculation in all this country.
We have the advertisement now before us.”
An Affray.
About four o’clock, yesterday afternoon, an af
fray occurred at tin B raiding House of the Cow
eta Falls Factory, which came very near result
ing fatally. The partio3 were one Mr. John !
Allen and his wife, and the latter wasthesuffeier. !
She was stabbed by Her husband, in the r.eek, in 1
the immediate vicinity of the jugglor vein, and
bled profusely. ‘The officers of the law were
soon upon the ground, but the perpetrator of the
outrage had anticipated their visit, and fled across \
the New bridge into Alabama.

Sir : I have the honor to inform the de

colors. She has ou board over three hun
dred slaves, and, when I first made her
out, was standing for Key West, with ex
pectation of landing her cargo this evening.
Her officers an crew consist of 18 men,
several of whom were Americans, and one
possessed an American protection. I have
put the prize under the command of Lieut.
J. M. Bradford, with Lieut. C. C. Carpen
ter, ten seamen, and six marines, with or
ders to proceed at once to Charleston,
South Carolina, and act in the premises as
the case may require.
I am credibly informed that several Amer

Being short of officers and men, and the
vessel requiring some overhauling, I shall

the instructions of the department from its
receipt of this communication.

IT has been thoroughly tested in thousands of j

and all the most popular remedies of the day had i
(ailed, but the Dlixir I.as m-t with the most iriun

nate caees. The unanimous testimony of all who
have use J or witnessed its operations, declare it to
be the rno.-t extraordinary n edicine over discov
ered tor the q lick and permanent cure of Fever
and Ague. It operates as a gentle Tonic and
stimulant, gradually but surely; eradicates every
vestige of disease, and restores the system to health
and vigor. It imparts new vitality to the blood,
and will soon induce the glow of health to return
to the pale and swarthy complexion,
The advantage of this medicine therefore is, that
a cure must be radical and complete; not simply
breaking the Chill,by producing a “new impres
sion” upon the nervou 9>stem. without reference
to the operations of the malarious poison, which
is allowed to remain unchanged a'd renew its
attacks, immediately after tho nervous system
ha- ceased to feei the art’ficial di?ease—induced

It contains no ingredient the least injurious to j
the system, and can be given 'to an inlant with i

All who need such a medicine, will do well to ;
