Health of Columbus.
There are few’ cities in the Uoion oft he size o!
Columbus, that one so free from disease and sick
ness. We have taken some pains 10 ascertain the
number of deaths in this city during the present
unhealthy period from our Sexton, Mr. Mix, with
a view of speaking cx-cal hedr a upon this subject,
subject. The record shows that during the month
of July, there were only six interments among the
whites and two among the blacks. In Aug. there
were eight deaths among the whites and tour among
the blacks. During the present month, which is
near closed, only lour deaths have occuried among
the whites and six among the blacks.
Recapitulating then ; there has been during the
months of July, August and September—the most
unhealthy season of every year—only thirty inter
ments, all told, in Columbus. Taking into con
sideration that the population ot the City is between
nine and ten thousand inhabitants, that more than
half the deaths are confined to children, that the
heat of the summer has been almost intolerable
and we think we present an extraordinary show
ing of a healthy city.

Sett. 12ib.—The sales ot cotton in Galveston
since the Ist inst., amount to lull 1,500 bales,
nearly or quite all new crop. The qualities range
from Low Middling to Middling Fair—tne pre
vailing description being Middling, tor which the
present rate is 11 3 4 cents per pound. The lowest
price at which we hoar any sale of new crop re

rate 12 3-4 tor a small lot, about 40 bales, Mid
dling Fair Dean Cctton. The demand continues
good, and as will be seen by the accounts from
abroad, the prospect is tavorable for a continuance
ot fair prices.
NEW YORK, Sept. 13.—Dry Goods.—The
Dry Goods trade during the wees has been more
active, and a satistactory business has been trans>
acted, fcomhern trade has been somewhat retar
ded, in eonsequonee of the prevalence of yellow’
fever in mauy ot the large towns and cities ol ihe
South; present appearances, however, indicate
that a much larger amount of goods w ill bo sold
to .hat section, the present season, than had been
anticipated. Western buyers are now ia market
in large numbers, paying up w’eli and buying free
ly. The present is a busy time with jobbers, and
there arc indications of a good Fall trade. The
Auction Sales of French goods were well atten
ded, and good prices were obtained- Dress Goods
and shawls are in sood demand.
Haggerly’s sale ot tailoring goods passed off at
fair prices. The importation of German cloths
has been large, but the demand is dull.
Domestic Goods have been in active request, for
both export and homo consumption. Stout Brown
Drills are firm at 84(2)81; 4,u00 bales have been
taken tor the China markf t. Fine cotton are in
better demand is limited. We quote Cochecos
10 cents and active. De Lanes, of toreign manu
facture, ol desirable styles, in demand ; low grades
active at 10e®llc. American De Laines, ol me
dium qualities, arc in good inquiry. Satinets and
Fancy Cassimers are in improved request. The
supply ol brown and Bleached Domestics this year
is small, and the quantity of cotton taken by spin
ners to this date, is 210,211 bales less than during
the same time last year.

FF* EDOM FROM FEVER AND AGUE
TMUItIPHAHTT SUOOES3!
THE
GRENADA ELIXIR,
OR
South American Antidote for Malaria?
Is a sure Cure and Perfect Route to Ague
I and Fever, Chill and Fever, Dumb Ague,
and all Bilious Affections !
IT has been thoroughly tested in thousands of
cases, some of years’ standing, where Quinine
’ and all the most popular remedies of the day had
failed, but llie Elixir has met with the most tri
j umphant success; never failed to cure the most
| obstinate cases. The unanimous testimony of ail
j who have used or witnessed its operations, declare
it to be the most extraordinary medicine ever dis
covered for the quick and permanent cure of Fe
ver and Ague. It operaies as a gentle Tonic and
stimulant, gradually but surely; eradicates every
vestige of disease, and restores the system to health
and vigor. It imparts new vitality to the blood,
: and will soon induce the glow of health to return
! to the pale and swarthy complexion,
i The advantage of this medicine therefore is, that
1 a cure must be radical and complete ; not simply
breaking the Chill, by producing a “new impres
j sum” upon the nervous system, without reference
to the operations of the malarious poison, which
j is allowed io remain unchanged and renew its at
tacks, immediately after the nervous system has
ceased to teel the artificial disease—induced by
Quinine and many other preparations generally
j resorted to. The GRENADA ELIXIR acts di
rectly upon the Liver, Stomach, Kidneys, Pores
of the Skin, and produces a radioai cure.
It contains no ingredient the least injurious to
tlie system, and can be given to an intarit with
perfect safety. It is warranted to cure every case
when taken as directed.
All who need such a medicine, will do well to
* “try the Grenada Elixir. It is not only the best but
the must economical medicine ever i-nroduced for
Fever and Ague and is a Southern Remedy.
