THE DAILY TIMES. THE CITY. Things about Town. Our reporter visited eveiy part of the city yos teiday for news, so anxious was he to have an ar ticle that would interest our city readers. He complains bitterly of our long editorials upon poli tics or abstruse questions, and says they are never read except by men who have nothing else to do— that business folks like light articles, that will please the fancy, and short ones at that* We are not disposed to disregard the words of our friend, and promise our readers to keep a wateh-out for every item of local news, that will interest them or gain a subscubor, without descending to matters unworthy the dignify oi a respectable Journal. Yesterday was a great day for wagons loaded with cotton and produce. Indeed, so far as th 3 appearance of business is concerned, it was the day of the season. Broad street was jammed with wagons, and while the receipts of cotton might be iiglvcr than at former periods, we are sure our merchants, grocery-men and bank-men were well pleased with the profits of the day. The farmer’s debts are always postponed until their cotton is sold, when they lay in a supply of groce ries, et cet. Now is the lookedfor time and many a long face has been changed as by a magicians wand into a gladsome and merry countenance. Still all are not happy. Tho extravagant youth finds the constable close at his heels and the too liberal provider is dunned at every corner by troublesome lawyers. Upon the whole, however, money matters are easy and everybody is getting on at a respectable rate. Tho river continues low and as a mattei of course our boats are tied up. ‘I bis state of things causes much cotton to come to Columbus, that would otherwise go to Apalachicola, while it re - tards its shipment- We heard yesterday of farm ers from the lower part of Stewart and near Florence making this city their market. This may arise from the good bargains, w*hich they are able to m ke in purchasing their winter supply of ar ticles, or the price offered for their cotton. The Eagle and Howard Factories are in op eration, notwithstanding the low water, and are doing a heavy business. The Coweta Falls Fac tory, which has been closed for some years, is now being refitted and will soon be ready lor operation. The Carter Factory has never been used Ur the purpose of manufacturing goods. Though rearing up six or seven stories high, it is used solely as a rope manufactory. The Gin Factories, Iron Foundries, and Variety work3 are all in opera tion with prospects of success. The pine blights are still observed in the groves near the city. It has been suggested, if the trees were thined out it would be beneficial. Our reporter still has faith in the completion of tho new bridge by the good people in the upper part of the city. He thinks the merchants and warehouse men know their interest too well to be indifferent about it and not finish it. It is now, vve believe, the most plsasant promenading ground in the city, and a place where the young and old congregate in the afternoon. Tho weather is mild and delightful, and with the exception of the dust, wo are well satisfied. A pleasant residence, in the upper part of the city, is offered forsaleby Samuel Boykin, Execu tor, or T G Holt. Also two v icant lots adjoining thereto and Store House No* 34 on Broad street. In default of a sale, the above property will be rented. Read tho advertisement of Dr. W. W. Wilson, of Talbotton, Ga .dealer in Drugs,Stationary, etc The Superintendent of the Museogee Railroad wants to hire able-bodied laborers. Bring ’cut in. While the comet is attracting the gaze of thou sands, the elegant fall stock of goods of Messrs. Manley if Hodges is the theme of conversation with the Ladies. Seldom do vve find the display of such exquisite taste in the selection of goods as in their purchase. Give them a call and you will be pleased. Hf**Mr. A. O. Stanley of Harris County adver tises tor a likely uegroes who has left his premises and offers a reward —See Advertisement. G. YV. Atkinson & Taylor offer inducements for the fashionable world to visit them—You get bargains here for the cash, by which 15 or 20 pe cent will be saved. See advertisement DAILY COMMERCIAL RECORD. Is a sure Cure and Perfect Route to Ague and Fever, Chill and Fever, Dumb Ague, and all Bilious Affections'. IT has been thoroughly tested in thousands of eases, some of years’ standing, where Quinine and all the most popular remedies of the day had failed, but the Elixir has met with the m ist tri i umphant success; never failed to cure the most | obstinate cases. The unanimous testimony of all ! who have used or w itnessed its operations, declare | it to be Ihe most extraordinary medicine everil is | covered for the quick and permanent cure of Fe | ver and Ague. It operates as a gentle Tonic and j stimulant, gradually but surely; eradicates every | vestige of disease, and restores the system to health i and vigor. It imparts new vitality to the blood, and wil soon induce the glow of heailh to return to the pale and swarthy complexion. The advantage of this medicine therefore is, that a cure must be radical and complete; not simply j breaking the Chill, by producing a “new impres ; sion” upon the nervous system, without reference to the operations of the malarious poison, which I is allowed io remain unchanged arid renew its at -1 tacks, immediately alter the nervous system has i ceased to feel the artificial disease—induced by | Quinine and many other preparations generally ! resorted to. The GRENADA ELIXIR acts di ! rectly upon the Liver, Stomach, Kidneys, Fores of the Skin, and produces a radical cure. Ii contains no ingredient the least injurious to llie system, and can be given to an inlant with perfect safety. It is warranted to cure every case when taken as directed. All who need such a medicine, will do well to try the Grenada Elixir. It is not only the best but the must economical medicine ever introduced for Fever and Ague and is a Southern Remedy. Prepared only by J. S. PEMBERTON & CO. Chemists and Druggists, Columbus, Georgia. And sold by all respectable Druggists in the city and country.
