Tribute of Respect.
The following preambles and resolutions were
adopted at a meeting of Hope Council, No. 4. the
20th November, 1858:
In the dispensation of an all-wise Thrice Illus
trious Graud Master, who is “too wise to err, too
good to be unkind.” this Council is called upon
to mourn the loss of our worthy I. H. T. our late
companion MICHAEL N. CLARK. Snatched
from earth and all its associations, by the ruth
less grasp of death, he leaves behind him a deso
lated and bereaved family, a large number of
mourning friends, and the sad faces of a harmo
nious brotherhood, in whose behalf and for whose
interest, it was his greatest pleasure, when with
ns, to labor aud toil. But all of us go the same
way—must pay the same debt of nature, and our
virtues and good deeds must be the monument left
behind us, the foot prints on the shores of time.
Be it Resolved, That we will remember the
v irtues of our late Companion, Michael N. Clark,
and emulate his good examples shown to us while
living. 1
Resolved, That to his afflicted family we hear
tily tender our sympathies as a brotherhood in this
day of their desolation.
Resolved. That this preamble aud resolutions
bo spread upon the minutes of this Council, and
that a copy of them be handed to the surviving j
widow and family of our deceased companion.
* T. P. SIXQEFIELD. )
D. B. THOMPSON, } Com.
W. L. STAPLER. j
The Telegraph and the public press of the day,
have announced to us the death of a companion,
a member of Hope Council No. 4, CHARLES
A. WARD, thus causing the severance of another
link in our mystic chain.
While we sympathise with those who, to him.
were most dear on earth, the bereaved family,
who, far away from us. are none the less objects
of our sympathy, because masonry knows no
bounds or Jhinits, we are happy to know that he
died at his post, the death of a ehristiau.
Be it therefore resolved. That in the death of
Companion Ward.this CounciHias lost an old and
efficient Companion, his family a kind lather,
husband, brother, and son, aud the community
an upright, honest citizen.
Resolved, That our sympathies are heartly ten
dered to his bereaved family.
Resolved, That a copy of this preamble and re
solutions be spread on the minutes of this Coun
cil, and that the same be forwarded to the family
of our deceased companion.

IMIE undersigned announces to the citizens of Co

taking Pictures in as good style as they can be taken
in the “Empire State.” either by a foreiait or natrve ar
tist. His prices range from that much despised sum—
filly cents to ten doilars. And although lie does not
pretend to say that he is the best artist in the United
States, yet he fears not the result of a contuarison with
those whose reputation is bolstered up by long adver
tisements and puffs of their own manufacture. lie
prefers that ladies and gentlemen should judge for
themselves. And if those in want of a good Picture
will call and give him a trial, he will convince them
that he fully understands the modus operondi of picture
taking. All he wants is a fair and impartial trial, and
he fears no competition from any quarter.
His Gallery is over Barnard’s Store, Broad Street,
where he will be happy to receive visitors and show

It is particularly recommended to those persons
