THE CITY?
The Races.
To-morrow the Races over the Chattahoochee
Course begin, and will Continue through the week.
We learn that about twenty horses are here, ready
to contend for prizes in the various trials of speed,
fhe 1 1 Rf k, one of the best in the whole country,
has been put in jHirfoct order, and the patrons of
the Furl will find ample opportunity for enjoying
their favorate amusement.
T* “
The first Shad.
This distinguished visitor made Iris way to our
city on Saturday morning, to the care of Mr. A.
Langford, and was generously handed over to
that very polite and gentlemanly landlord-—Jack
Smith, of the Planter’s House. We acknowledge
the receipt of a kind invitation to be present and
help to discuss the merits of said fish, and regret
our inability to accept. We are assured however,
from one who was ‘thar’and has considerable taste
for good eating, that the repast was one calcuatcd
in every way to attract the admiration of a hun
gry editor.
Temperance Hall-To-night.
We remind our citizens once more that Mr.
1‘ leming’s Dramatic Company will give their first
entertainment to-night at the above locality. The
bill is an attractive one—containing Dulwer’s
justly celebrated play, “Richelieu” (Mr. Fleming
personating the Cardinal,) aud an amusing farce,
“The Secret.” A song by Mrs. Williams, and a
Jig by Mr. Jus. Lewis, are also among the attrac
tions for the evening. Let all attend.
Death of Mu. Ilu.vnv Lucas.—We have just
heard, as we go to press, with profound regret,
that Mr. Henry Lucas died at his residence at
Mount Meigs, this morning, at 0 o’clock.— Mont-
Moll, Nor. 22.

A Cincinnati reporter says of a very ele

anyone; is always quiet, smiling anil genteel,
comes like a sunbeam, and like it, also steals
noiselessly away.”

WILLIAMS’
PICTURE GALLERY IN FULL BLAST.
T'HE undersigned announces to the citizens of Co-,
in mime, and in fact to all Georgia, that he is now
taking Pictures in as good style as they can be taken
in the “Empire State,’’ either by a foreign or ttalter ar
tist. * His prices range from that much despised sum—
titty cents to ten dollars. And although he does not
pretend to say that he is the best artist in the United
States, yet he fears not the result of a comnarison witli
those whose reputation is bolstered up by long adver
tisements and putTs of their own manufacture. He
prefers that ladies and gentlemen should judge for
themselves. And if those in w ant of a good Picture
w ill call and give him a trial, he will convince them
that he fully understands the imuJus operandi of picture
taking. All lie w ants is a fair and impartial trial, and
he fears no competition from any quarter.
His Gallery is over Barnard’s Store, Broad Street,
where he will be happy to receive visitors and show
them his specimens at all times.
