PROPOSALS
For publishing in the City of Washing
ton. by
E. S. DAVIS,
Os South-Carolina, a tri weekly Paper,
called
THE EXAMINER.
The Editor is fully sensible Of-the difficulty &£
responsibility, which at all times present tht in
selve, in an undertaking of this kind; and more
particularly since the introduction of a new po
btical hersey.
The Editor is, moreover.ritware of the turmoil
and perplexity of the vocation is about to as
suine; but he fells as every patriot should feel,
when he perceives the approaching danger of a
dissolution of the Union, an 1 the destruction of
the free institutions of this great Republic,' that
it is his duty to vindicate and sustain the rights
of the people, andetposeto public gaze the in
trigue's arftl duplicity of selfish and designing
men.
The Editor will support the . present adminis
tration. He is personally Sc politically (he friend
ot the Chief Magistrate. He believes no man,ex
cept Gen. Washington, ever possessed tn so great
a degree the confidence of the American People;
and surely no man ever better deserved it.
The eminent difficulty, at this time.to ascertain
the political tenets of certain aspirants, in rela
tion to many great national questions, renders
it necessary that the Editor si.ould here remark*
that hr holds the doctrines of the late Proclam
ation of the President of the UniteiFStates to be
strictly orthodoi knd such as were entertained
and inculcated by the immortal Washington. O(>
these doctrines will depend the Future destiny of
this great Confederacy.
I’ue Examiner will be Open to a full, fearless,
but decorous discussion of all matters relating to
the affairs of the nation, the public conduct of
public men, aivl the’ exposttion of every mal
practice in office.
On the question of the Bank the Editor has re
flected much; aud as he is not indebted to that
institution for loans, or any other favor, he will
be pardoned when he states that if is his opinion
th.- fiscal relations of the Government and Coun
try requires a Bank of some sort; but whether the
pieseut be the best, or whether it should be mo
dified, will be the subject of fu’ure discussion
A's regards the question of domestic industry,
the Ediiorcan with much sincerity declare, that
he believes nothing tends more to improve, adorn
and eniich, the country, than the laudable ex-
of our manufacturers.
The skill, the capital, anti untiring enterprise
which are now employed in the elaboration of.
the various productions of the soil, will, at no
very distant period, make us one of the most
fl lurisbing and independent nations on earth.
Nature appears to have bestowed upon us
what she has refused t 6 every other people; a
country embracing all the variety of climate and
soil, and yielding all the various productions of
the earth, necessary tt> thecomfofrof man.
To the People of the District of Columbia and
irfvlwrljz fhnae o/
would beg leave to remark, that he feels a lively
interest in every thing whith' relates f to the fa-’
tare prosperity of the place, surveyed and loca
ted under the immediate and special aupices of
the gieat Washington.
The Examiner will be published three times
weekly, at five dollars per annum, and the first,
number will be issued onfhe fourth day of July.
