The selections will be made with taste and judgment, from the most celebiated and distin guished English, French and German Periodi cals, on a plan which will beat once agreeable, entertaining and interesting, and at such a low price, that it can be obtained by every class of i readers. It will be issued on the 15th of every month, stitched io a colored cover, printed on good pa per, with new and handsome type; and contain from 40 to 50 large octavo pages, which will form at the close of the year two uncommon large volumes for the small sum of $3 per an uum, payable in advance; the last number of each volume will be accompanied by a beautifu engraved litle page and index. The advantages ari'ing from the above pub ication will be easily conceived, —containing by far a greater quantity of reading, than could in any other way be brought together, in one form and in a regular and staudiad manner, which is far preferable to keeping Scrap Books and Al bums or preserving every piece that is" a little interesting to tbe leader; whereas in the propo sed publication, all can be preserved alike and in a suitable style for binding; and thus not only do credit to the library of the Philosopher, but add greatly to the knowledge and amusement of every branch of the present generation. A publication on this plan has never bean at tempted in New-York, although many of a simi lar nature have been long established in out sister cities with great success; —the publisher therefore begs to assure the public, that his ai rangeinents are such that he hopes will meet the patronage of an enlightened and discriminating community Several gentlemen of known literary talent, have generously tendered their assistance to enable the Publish r to accomplish his object in commencing the “New-York Ladies' Com panion’ ” All those splendid sketches that have gained such celebrity in France and *taly, will betrans lated and re-printed in the columns of this monthly periodical. PRIME Northern HAY, this day landing from Company’s Boats, for sale, by G H. METCALF. March 17 32- - RICHMOND BATH ACADEMY. THE Exercises of this Institution will be re sumed under the superintendence of the subscriber, on the first MONDAY in January next. The Propiietors of this Institution, im- e pressed with the belief that there is no place in the Southern country, which combines more advantages for a permanent School, are resolv ed to neglect no means to render it in the high est degree useful, and wot thy of publie confi dence and patronage. With this view, they have determined at much expense, to alter and improyc the buildings in such a manner, as to afford every accommodation both to the Teach ers and Pupils. To those who are acquainted with the location, it is unnecessary to say, that the climate is as pure as in any section of the □outhetn country. The health of the place is proverbial. So far as the advantages of good soc ety may be considered as giving it a claim to public encouragement, it is believe 1 there is no Seminary, which, j n this respect, stands upon higher ground. Believing it to be of the highest importance to the pupil, both as respects his moral deportment and literary ad vancement thatjhe should be as much as possible under the immediate tuition of the Teachers, arrange! ments have been made, at no small expense, by the subset iber, to accommodate with board’ in bis own family, those pupils whose parents.and gnardiansmay wish to avail themselves of those advantages. By this arrangement, the Teach ers will tie able to devote their whole lime, both in and out of School, to the instruction of their pupils. In addition to the branches usually taught in English and Classic Schools, the scho lar may be qualified, if desired, to commence with advantage » be study of any of the learned professions. Having been many years engaged as a Teacher, in the Slate, and his peculiar mode of teaching, having proved eminently success ful, the subscriber deems it unnecessary tw make any remarks with regaid to his claims to public, confidence. Upon this point he would not only refer to those who have patronized the Institu tution since under his superintendence, bnt also to others, to wiioin he has been formerlv known as a teacher.
