Physician, it appears’that since the report of yesterday, five have died and thirteen new cases occurred. CHARLESS. HENRY Chairman: S. Sheftall, Sec. B. H Loss of Packet Ship StatirA..— The packet ship Statira, Capt. Bartling, from New York, for thfc port, with a val uable cargo of merchandise, took a pilot on Wednesday evening, and arrived off Tybee at about 10 o’clock vVhere she came to anchor between two and three miles east of the light. At three o’clock yesterday morning, it blowing a gale from the N. E., she parted her cables and went ashore dft the South Breakers, and bilged having five feet water in her hold. Capt. 8., passengers and part of the crew arrived in town last evening for assist ahed. Hopes are entertained that most of the cargo will be saved in a damaged state- — Savannah Georgian. It will be seen by the above statement |says the Charleston Couriers that the nominated by the Union Par ty have been defeated. The Test Oath Party still retain the dispensation of the offices of the city, it is trite, but that they have added any laurels to their brow, we confidently deny. The perfect good faith of the Unionists in fulfilling the pledge they had given of making use of no un due means to gain the election, gave their opponents an advantage over them, which operated to a tremendous extent. It is a notorious fact, that there were num bers of men who held ofl'from voting to a late hour, for the avowed purpose of ob taining the most advantageous terms. All applications for money were steadily re jected by the Union Committees, under rhe belief that bribery would not be re sotred to by the Nullifiers, and this fatal belief was entertained, until it was too late to meet our opponents in their own way, even had we felt the disposition. The Test Oath Party need not lay the flattering unction to their souls, that we are subdued. There is an indomitable spirit existing among our Party that is unconquerable. Already do we hear the cry *7o the rescue" resounding from our ranks, and all are united in declaring thatthey are ready for the October contest. Our country friends are assured that we have not doffed our armor or struck our flag; We have fought the good fight with a steadiness and determination that must convince our opponents that weare not to be disheartened by defeat. With a good cause and clear consciences; we will again spread our banner to the breeze— again thtowour selves into the protection of Civil Liberty and freedom of opinion. We are happy in being’able testate that the •cotton crop is very promising and little or no ’apprehension exists of amy injury from theCater pilMur. Unless some unforeseen’accident should •happen to blast the present prospects of the plan ter, this will be the most productive year since the settlement of the country. Verv little sick ness. of a dangerous nature has yet been experi •enccdeither in thiscity or neighborhood.—Flor i dian. ■Savannah Market, September 5. COTTON.—The last accounts from Liver pool being favorable, has had a tendency to make the market more firm, and last Week’s pri ces can tfasily be obtained. The sales of the week will amount to about 300 bales of old at 13 j a 141 and about 30 bales of the new crop at 14J cents.
