Mr. Polk, from the Committee of Ways and
Means, reported a bill to suspend, conditionally,

the United Statesand its branches, in payment
of dues to the United States; which was read
twice, andon motion of Mr. Polk, committed to
the Committee of the Whole on the State of the
Union.
Mr. Polk presented certain statements receiv
ed from the Secretary of the Treasury, as to the
rate of exchange charged by the Bank of the
United States, and by sundry local banks, and
moved the printing of the same, which was or
dered. .
Mr. White, of New York, having obtained a
suspension of the rule, moved the printing of an
extra number of 5000 copies of the above state
ments.
Mr. McKinley moved 10,000 copies, which
motion was agreed to.
Mr. Polk gave notice that he wouid on Mon
day week, ask the House to take up for conside
ration some of the appropriation bills; the pen
sion, navy and army bills, and such others as
•circumstances would admit.
He also gave notice, that as soon as practica
ble, he would call up for consideration the bills
respecting the Bank of the United States.—
Those bills, he said, he would have called up
before the present time, if the state of the busi
ness of the House had permitted it.
Indian outrage —The Rev. Mr. Da
vis, of Columbus, waslately fired at by an
Indian, about 42 miles from that place,
and a rifle ball lodged in his shoulder.
Mr. D. is recovering from the wound.
The Columbus Enquirer says
“We have heard recently of seveial at
tempts by straggling Indians, to murder
individuals travelling through their coun
try, But a few weeks since an innocent
little child, the son of a respectable farm
er in Russell county, was shot through
and afterwards inhumanly butchered by
one of these merciless savages. Several
persons have been shot at, within our
knowledge, and narrowly escaped with
their lives.”

LOOK OUT! LOOK OUT!
1 TRADED sometime last summer with Col.
William Kerr of Athens, for a yellow Ne
gro Man, known in this city by the name of
Daniel Kelly. Daniel was at the time I traded
for him Runaway—and is still out. All per
sons are requested to let said Negro pass if seen
about the city of Augusta. And the reward of
ferred by Col. Kerr, was withdrawn on the day
of bis sale to me. I have been looking daily to
see Daniel, and information reached me to-day
that a certain person known to me had advised
Daniel not to come to me, as it was a plan laid
to catch him for Col. Kerr. It appears to me
this good genieman is about to get himself into
a situation it will cost him some help to get
out, as well as expense. Daniel cannot he
bought from me atanv price bv said person.
