Th»« Savannah Republican is constantly re peating that Martin Van Buren will not get ’> the electoral vote ot Georgia. Come, what will you bet! The Anti Van Burenites here allege, ‘hat the Cm/ricr will bolt, if something besides i.s attachment to Mr. Van Baren does not keep it in the tracit. Ago id fa: bet, or cilice, will | fix the matter. As the Republican does not be- ' long to the party to distribute the latter, let it ' name its bet, and we will go as far as a chinque- j pin or claw ot tobacco. iMislern District.— Though our oppo- i Dents have gained since Inst year.the East ern District is still true to the Union. The vr tes polled this year are—26s2. The majority for Union is—568, nearly equal i to one halt their vote. The Union party i have likewise a majority of tiro from the "Eastern District in the Legislature, after , giving their opponents Mr. Nightingale ’of Camden, elected from a ’Union county. 1 —Georgian. The Grand Jury of Tuscaloosa County, ; In this State, on Friday the 25th ult, re turned a true Bill against Robert G. Wil liams, the Editor of “the Emancipator” New V ork, for circulating within this State, publications of a seditious character, tending to excite our s!av« population to insurrection and murder It is said in the " Flag of the Union,” though not “ authen- ! tically,” that the Governor will make a demand upon the Executive of New York, for the delivery of Williams, to be tried | under the laws of this State. The clause of the Constitution relied upon to sustain the claim, is that which declares that “ a person charged with treason, felony, or other crime, who shall flee from justice ’ and be found in another State from which ! he fled, be delivered up to the State, hav- [ ing jurisdiction of.the crime."— Mobile Register of the lOz/l Capt. B, L. E. Bonneville, whose name was dropt from the Army list, as u Cap tain of the 7th regiment of infantry, on the 31st May, 1834, has recently arrived in Washington, after an absence of four years, from an expedition to the Rocky Mountains and the regions beyond. This expedition was undertaken solely on his own account, a furlough having been granted to him for that purpose. From his extreme rein te situation, the several reports made by him did not reach Head Quarters, and it was supposed he had perished. He has obtained from actual i examination a vast store of information i concerning the geography of that portic n ! of the country, and the Indians who in habit it. Captain B. is making an effort to ob tain restoration to his former rank in the army.— Army and Navy Chronicle. Stale of Printing in Portugal.— ln Lisbon there are only two printing offices: the one publishes a weekly newspaper, and employs four compositorsand two pressmen the other prints a semi-week I v paper, and employs six compositors and two pnssmen. In Oj portothere are three printing establishments upon a similar scale, one of which is supported by the En glish merchants, and the work executed in 1 it is chieflyin the English langnugc, The types are ofa very inferi >r description, and the press is an extremely rude and ineffi cient machine—the impression being im- i parted from the types to the paper by the weight ofa large stone, which is raised I and lowered by a rope and pulley attached to the ceiling. We have been informed that offers have been made by various institutions in this city to buy out the debts of the Unit "'rd States Branch Bank, but that these of fers have beer, refused, as it is the desire a'" the mother bank to make use of itto st t je up its business here and in the western s’ati-s. We are glad to perceive that sat isfactory arrangements tor the same pur- P‘-se have been made in other cities. By these 'mans the pressure which might h ive been p. uai ced by the winding up of •t ■ United State'- Bank may be obviated. -•A O. Uir-e M~‘‘or John M’Lem ore, charged with the muider of Col. David Myers, was last week re-tried at the Court ol Sessions for this district, Judge Richardson presiding and a verdict of manslaughter brought in bj' the Jury—-sentence, two years impris onment and a fine of five thousand dol lars.— Telescope of 17 th. George Tooke.the Indian who is charg ed as one of the murderers of the. Boman family, has been tried and found guilty at the present term of this court. The Judge has not yet passed sentence. — Cassville Pioneer, 25th ult. Interesting to Farmers. — Short Wheat, > a newly introduced kind of Wheat spoken of with high commendation by a corres pondent of the Farmer and Gardner, was, in May 1834, obtained in New-York from a Polish emigrant (who had just thin ar rived) by a gentleman living in the inte rior of Pennsylvania. Os this wheat the gentleman just mentioned raised a crop. He praises the grain for its unrivalled beauty, its abundant yield, its great pro duce of flour and its capacity to withstand ad verse seasons. For all these properties it is highly valued in Poland, from which 'country it originally comes. The grain, it is further said, is beautifully white, — the berry rather short arid very plump (whence, it derives its name) and it weighs 64 1-2 lbs. per bushel.— Baltimore Ga zette. Steam Boat'accident—Loss of Lives The Steamer Boonslick, Capt Lake, hence lur St. Louis, when very nearly op posite to Plaquemine, she burst her boiler, by which accident the captain and engi neer lost their lives, and a great num ber scalded in a most serious manner. W-j wait with anxiety fur further partic ulars ofthis inelancholy..cata stroph O. Union. j It has been stated to us, that passenger boats have been constructed tit Cincinnati intended to be entirely devoted to those who may travel up and down the river. No freight will be received, and these steam boats will abound with every lux ury and convenience. By only carrying passengers, the time of making trips will be shortened, and persons travelling on business will be enabled to make accurate calculations as to the time they may be en gaged in the voyage in steam boats of this character between Louisville, Cincinnati, Pittsburg, and prominent places on the Mississippi, such.is Natches & Bayou Sa *'ah, they would receive a great patronage and pay a handsome profit to their owners. We trust the plan may meet with every encouragement. —A’. O. Union. From the early frost and other disasters it is believed that the cotton crop will be much injured in this section; and that the crop generally through the state will fall greatly short of what had been expected. The little notice of the cotton harvest which appeared in our paper two weeks ago, was intended rather to refer to the prospect in price, and fair weather for picking, than the quantity which we sup posed would be made. Os that we knew but little, as our observations had been ve ry limited. From the appearances of the cotton plantations between this place and Augusta, we are led to the conclusion that there will not be over a half crop real zed this season.— Washington Neics. It contains by original survey, 5(0 acres; but would probably on a re-survey, min out upwards of 600 acres.
