STORM O.i Surdij evening last, about (on o’clock, thj* town ami neighborhood were visited by one of the most violent storm ot wind, rain and Kail, ever experienced in this port of Virginia. From the; dawn ol morning, the atmosphere had worn a threatening appearance—a strong 3. W. wind prevailed, and the clouds during the Whole day, portended falling Weather.— Suddcniv, at the time above mentioned, the Heavens grew dark, the wind rose to the strength ol a hurricane, rain and hail, accompanied by lightening, poured down in torrent*. A scene so terrifi, , so sub lime, we never beheld. It is indeed at such a moment, man feels !>i» ntithingpcss. and acknowledges the power of Omuipo Wnce. The storm continued about five min. utes—During this short period, however, a good deal ofdamage was done in I’eters burg sod the neighborhood around. In town the gable ends of two brick huuses Uollingbrouk street, were beat down—oae, belonging to the estate ottlie late Mr. Cur tis, not materially injured—the other, the property of Mrs. Alexander, sustained considerable detriment. Likewise some bouses were partially unrooted, end many chimneys, fences, etc. blown duwn. From the cuupjcy v we<h'ear of stables, barn*, etc. being torn to pieces, trees uprooted, and fences swept away. We arc happy -to ■ild, we have heard ofuo lives being lost.— Petersburg Intel. _ REVOLUTION! UP DOCUMENT. C- the general total ly disapproves, ns illegal and absuid. The clearest evidence having appeared to tie court, that the said A. was employed by the enemy, repeatedly,to come on the main Ssarpv, and that he enticed men to go on to Rh'ole-Island, to enlist in the enemy’s service, and his contentions from day to day being so different at to prove him nut only a spy, But to be a person in whom y the least confidence cannot be placed; the court having found him guilty of all this: nothing could be more absurd than to sen tence him to-life whipped one hundred hashes, and afterwards to be taken into a service which he has been lung endeavor ing in the most malicious and secret man ner to injure? The man who is found . guilty of acting as a spy, can have but one judgment by all the laws of war, which is - t» stiller death; autl the sentence ol a man to be whipped uhen fuund guilty ol this crime, is as absurd as for the common law courts to older a man to be set in the stock foe wilful murder. The same abviirdity appearing in the judgment against 1). C lor the same reasons, [the 'gen.j disap proves them both, dissolves the court, and orders another court to sit for trial of loose persons, to-morrow morning,at 9 o’clock: The adjutant-general to lodge a crime a- gainst A. for acting as a spy, and for enti- r ciog men to enlist into the enemy’s ser vice: and against C. for acting as a spy.” At the subsequent court, A. was found guilty as before, and sentenced to be hung which sentence the general approved and executed. On the trial it was proved that he had been in the habit ot exercising this sort of do- tnestia discipline for several years past, and the severity of it had occasioned his wife to seperate from him ami fioall\ to bring him before the court. No exculpa tory evidence was offered in his |',vur He was found guilty ly the jury ai.d lined toy judge Montgomery one hundred dol lars. At the same court D. V'il.iatns was convicted of forgery and scutec ed to the penitentiary for ten years. Another individual was sentenced to the penitentiary, for three yean, on a conviction for an assault with intent to murder. Wo understand that—Harris, who some time since robbed the Franklin mad, anil for whose apprehension a rewanl of three hundred dollars was offered, was taken a few days past in Elbert county. It will toe recollected, that after the robbery he went to Xurth-Carolina, here he was tak en, and as his keepers were bringing him on to this state, lie, as was stated, contriv ed P possess hilnseif of their pistols, and made his escape. We, tlie grand jurors for tlie body of the coun ty of Bryan, unite with the other grand jurors of the eastern circuit, and respectfully present to the legislature that, we are deeply sensible of the evils incident to our present judicial system—we are convinced of the importance of separating tlie common law and equity jurisdictions, and of the indispensable necessity ot establishing an appellate tribunal, which, by being vested with the power of revising ibe decisions and correcting the errors of inferior judicatories, will give uniliimii y to the administration of public justice; without which, the liberty of the citizen cannot be effictally •ecured. We, therefor;-, respectfully, but earnest- y recommend such alterations of the constitution as will effect these desirable objects We do t'uither present the bad state of tlie Dgechee causeway, which at this time is passable in con sequence only of an excessive dry season, apd which a very little rain, would place in such a condition, as to render all travelling between the city of Savannah and the southern parts of the state impracuble. As the public road to which the causeway is attached, is one of considerable importance to the comunity at Urge, and which is drily increasing by the commercial prosperity of the town of Darien, and the constant commu nication existing between that place and Savan nah, we deem it proper, as well for the interest of this county as ol tlie state in general, to re commend, in conjunction with the former part of the presentment to our senators and representa tives, in (lie nest legislature, to place the said causeway on the footing of a turnpike, by obtain ing a bill for that purpose.
