Having advanced about half way to the place appointed, to the utter amazement of the bearers, who had for some time sup posed from tiis profound and breathless si lence thatthe unfortunate Trojan was ac tualiydead, his rupture became tou pow erful to be restrained—lie burst from his reverie, -started from bis pillow, threw out iiis stuffing, leaped from the hand-barrow with all the agility of a professed Hurle quin, and tpade his way off, with the liuit of the public chaiity in his pocket, by such rapid strides, that tile carriers, who gave chase as soon as the first shock of astonish merit was over, were entirely unable to overtake him. What became of the old woman, we have not heard. Probably she is in some song coiner, muttering tmpre. cations on the man’* ingratitude, or chant ing the praises of New-York charity, in her native language. Philadei.peia, June 14 Yesterday, the Spanish brig Fortune.TO lays from Havana, prize to a Patriot or Pirate privateer, belonging somewhere, nr rivedat this portindistress. She has been taken possession of by the marshal of the district, and the prize crew lodged in goal. VVe understand they will be brought uj for hearing to-day.—Freeman's Journal. The Spanish brig Fortuna, Bark, prize master from Havana bound to Cadiz, ar rived here yesterday was captured by a Buenos Ayrean privateer off - the latter place, and ordered for St. Thomas, carg< sugar, coffee, dj'c. The prize crew rose up on the prize-master, and intended to run in to the Chesapeake. The prize master had been confined 30 days when she was board ed by the pilot Davis, who was placed a prize-master; the crew had confined Mr. Burk, took the boat, and deserted the ves sel, soon after the pilot hoarded the For- tuna.—Jime. Wheeler, of the sloop Concord, ■I Fairfieid, Con. which arrived here from New-York, on Monday evening last, in forms u*. that on Monday morning, at 5 o’clock, Race Point 8. K, 15 mites, he dis covered in the water, about 20 rods from his vessel, directly ahe.iJ,an extraordin ary sea animal, moving pretty quick thro’ the water, with hi* head erected abjnt four feet from the surface; tiie length of the creature, distinctly seen above the wa ter, was at least fifty feet; he appeared to be in joints, with a number of protuber ance*, and appeared somewhat similar t< a string of barrels afloat- The sea was perfectly smooth, and he was so near that captain VV. had the best opportunity ot viewing him. Ewixo, master, to his friend in Savannah, dated u BaUinioro, Jime 13rA. “During onr cruise we cap.ured five Spanish vessels, of different descriptions—one, of which, was double our force, and taken in sight of the castle guns at St. Croix, Tenf rifle. “Captain Ewing’s cool, deliberate and detrrmin. ed mode of attack, convinces me, that lie merits more than has, or will fall to bis good fortune in this cruise. He is determined in action; but car ries his humanity and liberality to his prisoners, rather beyond bis own interest; for, he lias suffer ed no prisoner to be plundered, without return ing or refunding the value of the articles lost. “We had a warm action with a Portuguese brig of war of 16 guns; but left her in consequence of a frigate and sloop of war to leeward, beating up to her assistance- We received no injury, only u, our sails. We were afterwaids informed, that the brig put into St. Antonio, and landed 4 of her wounded, and reported 6 ki.led and 14 u-ounded; and they likewise reported, that they had cut us to pieces, and left us in a sinking condition. “We have found Baltimore to be very much .hanged since we left it. No agents to be found ta transact any kind of tsusoiees-tb. ua, and l have reasons to believe, that the captain in consequence of endeavoring to save himself and all ccnceraed. has nearly sunk all the profits of his forrnrr cruise under the Patriot flag. In one instance of his generosity, I saw him pay to the Portuguese gov rnor of the island of St. Vincent, his account of gUO for cattle, hogs, sheep, goats and fruit, after snowing him his commission to cruise against his government—the governor on board, and his town completely in his power, and within half musket shot.” Nobvolk, June 14. From our cornspondent at Gibraltar we learn that, on the 3d of April the Governor of that place received a pet empiary dewand from the Governor of Cadiz, fur the sunender of Wm.
