Yesterday, Mr Stanard, the United Slates* at torney for tills district, addressed the jury on the case of Samuel Poole, indicted under the act of congress, for piratically robbing a Spanish vessel, or a vessel whose name was unknown, of Spanish milled dollars. He was followed by Messrs. YV Wickham and A. Stevenson, on behalf of the pris oner. The wind blew with scch violence, as it came over ilie mountain, as to tear up by the roots and twist off the largest trees. It struck a piece of woods, containing about three acres, and demolished every tree— and even removed a fence built of heavy logs, to its foundation—.some of which were hall buried in the earth—these were actually moved, a number, of them several rods. The inhabitants stood viewing its approach with horror, expecting the des truction of tlicii houses, if not itislant death—but its violence abated as it came upon the river, a few rods east of the mills, after throwing a thick cloud of wa ter an hundred feet into the air—twenty rods further, and the whole vtliiage must inevitably have been laid in ruins.
