Whereas a libel hath this day been filed in the admiralty court of the United States for said dis trict, by Levi James, aguin&t coffee and sugar, stating that he is owner of the sloop called Sai lor’s Rights, that on or about the twentieth day of July, in the present year, the libellant when off New-Uiver, y - the coast of East-Florida, rcceiv* ed infoi .mti-'ii a vessel being wrecked, or in a ; crdou9 r.^ar the sard coast; that the snsd \tss l discovered near the shore in two and a ha;f fathom': water, with four feet water in her in Id. laden w rit sugar and cofFee, with the n. me of Ann. ol Scarborough, on her stern; that the said vessel when discovered and boarded by the libellant and part of his crew, had no person on bo.a.i, and had all the appearance of having hern abandoned by her master an.; crew at sea, both her topmasts and running rigging earned a- way, and sue in a peruousand w recked condition, iliat previous to the hbedant takir-g possession c. said brig and cargo, a spoliation appeare d to h*v >edn committed on the cargo, and probably b; ome,Indians or persons who were seen on the shorej or by a vessel on a wrecking crnise: that *>ut for the timely interference oi the hbelUnt, and the great exertions made by hun and his crew foi me preservation of said carpo, it mu>t have been »o9t to the proprietors thereof; that for the pur pose of lightening the said vessel and saving the remaiuder ot said cargo, the libellant found it ab solutely necessary to throw ovsrDoanl a nunc jrr of boxes of >ugar, blowing very hard from the southward ana westward, from which, and the ef torts used to get the said brig off, tlie said sloop of the libellant sustained considerable damage; that from the season of the year and the fatigue* and n*ks of the libellant and crew in saving said cargo from depredations and other perils of her situation, the health and lives of the libellant and irew were placed in much .danger; that the libel lant took cut of said brig as much of her cargo as possible, taking oi* board hts said sloop about fourteen hogshead 4 , forty two bags, ten barrels, eighteen tierces cotfee, and two boxes of sugar, which have arrived in the port of Savannah, with in the jurisdiction of th a bonorab-e eourt for its order and decree; and tne said libellant in and by the said libel prays that a monition issue to all persons concert ed, to shew cause why proper salvage should not be decreed out of the said eof few and sug^r to the libellant and others entitled Now’, therefore, you, the said marshal, are here by commanded to cite and admonish all and singu- .ar every persoir or persons having, or pretending to have, any right, title, interest, property,claim r . .emand whatever of, in, to, or upon, the said coffee and suga£ to appear at a special court of admiralty, to be held at the court-house, in the city of Savannah, in said district, on the thirteenth day cf Augnst next, to answer to the libellant in die premises and to shew cause if any they have wny the prayer of the libelia »t should not be granted; and whatsoever you shall do in the pre- m sea certify to the judge of said court at the time and place aforesaid, and have then and there this "writ. John is of a very bright complexion, light hair, tolerable stmiglit and rather grey. He 'S about five feets'X or seven inches high, has holes bored in each ear, blue eyes, and on close examination several shot wounds mny be found about his j thighs. Sic. John is well known about the city ‘ as a fifer, having been employed by the Savannah Volunteer Guards to play for them. Whoever will deliver the above fellow to the subscriber or lodge him in any gaol in the state shall receive the above reward. N. B. Whereas it is right that the officers of ibis cor poration should receive a compensation equal to the duties required of them— 1. Be it ordained by the mrtyor and aldermen of the city of Savannah ir. council assembled, and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the same,. The facsimiles have been engraved by Mr Val lance, who executed this important part of the publication at thf City of Washington, where, by permission of the secretary of state, he had the original signatures constantly under his ey e Department of Side, 19th April, 1819. The former prices were fixed during a period in which the raw materials were dear, arid noieasilv to he procured, ami it is presumed that they had some claim to be considered moderate, as, in 1812. Type were more than three per cent lower in Fil’d: ’ 1 ’ ladt Iphia, than in London; and no advance v. as made on those prices, during the late war, although existing circumstances would have justi fied the measure. It was considered that ar\ ad vance warn Id be an actual loss to the printers, a, the competition in the printing business had, be fore that period, arrived *r such a point, that the public were supplied with panting, at nearly the minimum, and also, that it was probable the pri ces of types would continue some time after the rt-urn of peace, and recompense for any advan tage that Was given up. This has taken place. For some time past, types have been lowered in value, but not in price. They have been sold on long anil frequently uncertain credit, which pro duces, to the seller all the edicts of reduction of price, whilst to the printer who pays it is of com paratively little benefit. All the advantage is in tavor of those who promise, but do not perform, as in truth they get types for noth u.g and the sol vent printers pay for them Another objection to this mode of reducing price i», ;r.at it absorL* the seller's funds, and, no mat er t..> dtistrious o- frugal he may be, subjects him to t ; ir.e it.conve niences of poverty. Men who possess talents, economy, industry and honor, will sometimes lack money.
