An Ordinance To alter an ordinance so tar as relates to the sala ry allowed to the city scavenger. Whereas it is right that the officers of this cor poration should receive a compensation equal to the duties required of them— 1. Be it ordained by the mayor and aldermen of the city of Savannah in council assembled, and it is hereby ordained by tbe authority of the same That the city scavenger shall receive a salary the sum of four thousand four hundred dollars per annum, navable quarterly. 2. ADd be it further ordained, That so much of the sixth section of an ordinance, passed June 15,1818, as relates to the pay of the scavenger be and the same is hereby repealed. In Council, May 3, 1819. The size >.f the palter is 36 inches by 24; it lias been manufactured by Mr Amo, in Uu best man* Her, and of the very best materials. The design from the pencil of Mr Bridport is executed in imitatiou of Bus Belief; and encir cles the Declaration as a cordon ophonor, sur mounted by the Arras of the United States. In mediately underneath the arms is a large medal lion portrait of general George W asiiingtov, sup ported by cornucopia^ and embellished with spears, fags, and other military trophies and emblems.— On one side of this medallion portrait, is a similar portrait of John Hancock., president of congress, July 4, 1776; and on the other, a portrait of Tat. kl Jefferson, author of the Declaration cf Inde pendence. The arms of “The Thirteen United Slates, 1 in medallions, form the reniairder of the cordon, which is further enriched by some of the charac ter.stic productions of the United States; such the tobacco and Indigo plants, the coiton Mj. ub, rice, Lc.
