A judicial investigation had also commenced, which was likely to result in something serious. The Liverpool Advertiser of the 9th ob serves, that “it is impossible, from what has been already deposed, to suppress a con viction that the attack of the military on the 16th was attended with aggravations which no conceivable circumstances that remain to be proved, can either justify or palliate.” The contest for the office of lord mayor of London terminated on the (>tii October in favor of the ministerial candidate, by large majority, on the declaration ol 'which he attempted to address the people, but the uproar was so great he was obliged to retire. The persecution of the unfortunate Jews still continued on sonic parts of the conti nent. In Copenhagen the soldiers refused to act against the populace, who committed the most barbarous outrages. The following arc all Ute extracts which our limits will tins day permit: Ltveii tool., Oct. 9. General meetings on the unfortunate af fair of the 16th August, both in counties and towns, continue to be announced in vari ous parts of the country. That ofthe coun ty ol York, which is signed by the duke of Norfolk, earl Fitzwilliam, lord Milton, and other distinguished personages, is announc ed in terms of the greatest caution and sus pense, hut expresses a determination to dc mand enquiry. Meetings ol thc counties of Cumberland and Westmoreland are also in preparation. At a late meeting of some of tlie principal inhabitants of the latter coun ty, wc were highly gratified by the the rea sonable and moderate tone in which Mr. Brougham addressed the assembly on this ntclanciiolly subject. With die natural and proper feelings of an Englishman on the vi olent proceedings of the 16th August, he expressed, at the same time, liis pointed disapprobation of those moving masses of Radicals, who march round the country to influence and overawe the decisions of eve ry local assembly, by an interference which is equally dangerous ana unconstitutional.
