the important changes and improve

Southern Association, as reorganized at
Montgomery, and urged the importance

Whether or not it is determined to work
in connection with the Associated Press

the importance of unity of action.
On motion of Mr. Withingtcn, the Con

in Augusta.
Thus was concluded the fourth annual
Association of the Southern Press Asso
eiation. Its deliberations were of the
most pleasant aad satisfactory charac
ter. Though aot as largely attended as
was desirable, it embraced many of the
most enterprising and eneeessful jour
nalist* of the South, and it is believed
that it will be productive of tfee best
results. If the Association did not
assume a position of such complete
independence as many desired, it ex
hibited awch concert of action as will, H
is believed, secure the recognition of all
reasonable demands in connection with
the Associated Press, or enable it to act
with vigor in the redress of grievances.
Excvmsioss, fjosrrralitt or tax citi
zens, ETC.
The hospitality extended to the mem
bers of the Association was of the most
cordial character. The press, hotels,
merchants, and citizens vied with each
other in their efforts to contribute to the
general enjoyment. Carriages were in
waiting to convey members of the press
to any part of the city. Cigars, refresh
ments, and stationery were freely ten
dered on every baud, and nothing that
taste or liberality could suggest was left,
undone to demonstrate the hearty wel
come. To be a member of the Press
Association waa aa open eetame to the
pockets and hearts of a!!.
In company with a number of others,
we took a ride around the city, and found
on every band evidences of growth and
progress which seem almost magical. j
