I3T We have received from New-York the first number of a new monthly entitled the "Illustrated Magazine of Art." It is pub lished iu the wry largosi royal octavo form, somewhat of the size of the Penny Magazine, and illustrated with twenty-three finely exe cuted engravings. Among them is a series of copies of Ranch's Illustration of Schiller’s Pegasus in Harness. The literary mailer is also of the most ozeeilent order, and the pinn ing is extremely elegant—the ink, the pub lishers nay, having been brought from a re nowned fabricator in Paris. The work is published by Alex. Montgom ery, New Yoik, end furnished at three dollars a year. Davenport, called upon the Mayor, and staled to him the •iluatiou of the Zebra, The Health Officer was immediately ordered down to atccrtuio the condition of the passengers and crew on board •aid vessel. On Monday, 17tli, the Collector employed a schooner to carry down good und wholesome water, which was all the emigrants needed. On Monday, (same day,) Messrs. Kinchlby, Lockett Ac Co., being authorised by lelegruph from Now Orleans, took charge of the brig, and have rendeicj all necessary assistance. There is already a troop of claimauts for she honor of being " the first" to discover the prin ciple of driving engines by caloric. Tha Lynch burg Virginian ascribes the inveniiou to u man by the uaine of Prouty, born and raised in the city of Richmond. •* He learned the gunsmith business in the armory, removed to Augusta, lieurgiu—there he constructed and put into operation the very engine about which there ie at prosent so much noise. We have an indistinct recollection of the en gine spokenof above, and we will take pains to inform ourselves on the subject. Mr. Prouty wss a highly respectable aud enterprising me* clrsnic, and resided in this city for several years. Extensive Clock Factory Burnt.—The extensive clock factory io Bristol, belonging to Mr. Brown, wae totally consumed by fire on Friday night, together with ull the valuable machinery aud materials. The Iom* ia esti mated at $40,000, upun which there suiance of $30,000. Alleged Conspiracy.—Two large dealers of Fhiiadulphia have failed, with liabilities to the amount of $‘400,000. They have lieen arrested, charged with a conspiracy to defraud their creditors, und held to hail in $8,000 each. A New Dkdutantk.—A lady of Fhiludel- pliiu, said to be highly connected, educated, young, and gifted with all natural requisites, is preparing for tha stage, under the tuition of Mr. Richiugs. She will appear at the Walnut as Julia, in the Hunchback. The verdict of the jury of inquest waa mur der, and Ilia justice committed Clark to jail without huil. We cannot conceive of spy motive that could iuduco Clark to commit criuiua of so peculiar ly Rggruvaled an atrocity. We hove heard of domestic infelicities or disagreements which would render a man so desperate. The only ground upon which hi* conduct cau be accounted for, is that of insanity. A young girl arrived ut Cinuirmati o 5th inst., for the purpose of procuring medical aid for the most extraordinary malformation we have ever seen an account of. Her name is Mary Jane Carter, horn in Morgan county, Ky., about eighteen years of oge, of pleasing address and appearance. The Enquirer givea the following account of the malformation of her hands.
