We refer our readers to the programme of Ole Bull’s concert at St. Andrew’s Hall, to night. This is the last opportunity that our public will ever have of hearing and seeing tlie great Norwegian violinist. We say see* inf, because it is something to see Olk Bull, a innti who combines with genius of the high est order those uoble qualities of character that have won for him tho respoct aaJ person al esteem of th.. f.rst men in the nation. The kindness and benevolence or his heart are en- prassad in hit face, and distinguish him not less than his wondrous skill.as a musician.— Strakoscii is an established favorite with our public. The purity of his style, the ex quisite delicacy of his touch, the artistir.ul fin ish of his compositions are unequalled by any pianist now before the American public. Lit tle Patti is a now star in the musical hemis phere. She is a Jenny Lind in miniature, or us Jenny is said to havo expressed it herself, “she is do sweetness of all do gr6ut dingers in one little bird." Patti niado a most decided impression on Thursday night, when she re ceived a very Inrge share of the admiration, und moro than an equal share of the applause of the audience. Tlie party were much fatigued on Thurs day evening, having just come from the deck of the steumer to the concert room, and it is u matter of wonder how they wore ablo to ac quit themselves so satisfactorily under such oinharrassing circumstances. The rest they have enjoyed in Savannah will inako them more themselves to-night. ipito o! public and private professions and dec- limrtiotis, which in limes of suspended doubt I sincerely made to shield mysell from suspicion, nnd win hack tho confidence of my diocese, which had hern well nigh lost—ill »pite of till this, end of many other considerations which would rise up before me, as the necessary con sequence ot suffering my mind to be carried forward in the direction in which my doubts pointed, these doubts would again return with increased and almost overwhelming rigor, goading mu at times to the very borders of de rangement. Under these doubts, I desired temporary relief from duties that had buenme so dis quieting to me, and determined to accompany Mrs. Ivss, whose honifli demanded u change of climate, in a short absence abroad. But absence has brought no relief my uiiml. In deed, the doubts that disturbed it have grown into clear and settled convictions ; so clear and settled thut, without a violation of con science nnd honor, and every obligation of duty to God and His ahurch, 1 can no lougc remain in my position. 1 am called upon, therefore, to do an act of •olf-aacrifine, in view ol which all other self rificiug acts of my lile are less than nothing ; called upon to saver the ties which havo bren strengthened by long years of love and forbearance, which have hound my heart to many of you, at was David’s to that of Joiiallian, aiid moke my heart bleed as my hand traces the seutenco which separates all pas toral relation between u», and convoys to you the knowledge that I hereby resign into your hands tny office as Bishop of North Carolina ; and further, that I am determined to make my submission to the Catholic Church.
