Madame B. is favorably known to our musical public, and, sustained by the talent which the above arrangement combines, cauiiot fail to receive a s generous support. Crutchfield House. We invite the attention of the travelling public to the card of Mr. Crutchfield, pro prietor of the above popular Hotel in Chat tanooga, Tenn. The house occupies a very eligible poeition in the immediate vicinity of the Railroad Depot, und is well adapted iu its internal arrangements to promote tho conve nience and comfort of guests. We found it a very pleuisnt stopping place, while on a visit to the flourishing metropolis of East Tennessee, last summer. The hotel was then iu the charge of Air. Situated immediately on the State Road, iu the centre of Cherokee Georgia, and in the richest county iu the State, the thinks Calhoun must necessarily, at no very distant <w. become a place of considerable importauce. Her citizens are characterized by their hospitality und public spitit. We are decidedly of the editor’s opinion. Havnnunh uud (South-western Georgia. We copy un article from the Huvainiah Georgian under this head, concerning tho con nection ofMavsttnah with the Gulf by railrood. not in the secret of tho Editor's desire to fix the line of the Suvamiah sod Gulf road " not further North lhau Troupvilie”—ho gives reason for such a deviation from a direct liue. lie may suppose that coming in con tact with the Brunswick road at that point, the Huvuunah road will not only enter into suc cessful competition with that work, hut will also have so encompassed the country between that aud the Central and Houth-western rail roads, us lo secure its whole Hade to Savan nah. 'There never was a greater inistaka. Parts of Telluir, Irwin, Dooly and Pulaski, which would go lar to support the direct road, would remain comparatively undeveloped; the cost of the road would be increased ; the Brunswick branch to Albany would secure the trude ol this section; the ivvojinea running parallel und very near toeucli other, would give to liruns- transportation, and thus secure the chiel trude of Florida; such competition would injure both roade, with, roui|)uratively, but little benefit to Savannah. But if both muds should be built, according to the charters, with one or mure branches connecting them at proper distances, there will be no occasion for unfriendly rivalry —the average distance betweeu them will be about fifty miles, leaving space und local trade enough to support each ; the Suvunnah rpud would cuuiiect with either Ponsocolu or Mobile by a shorter road through a belter country ; it would cost less, bo more business, and be mure profitable to stockholders. In every respect il would be belter fur Savuntmh and South western Georgiu, as well as for Brunsw ick and the Bruuswick rosd. fc>o far us the lands on the line of the road, as fixed by the charter, arc concerned, somebody must own them, nod it is of littin consequence to the compuny who, if they cuu get the right of way, free of cost. We are in no way, either directly or indirectly, concerned iu those lands. Ho fur us the Charter is concerned, we ob tained that, without fee or other reward than the consciousness of having contributed some thing which might benefit our Stale, and par ticularly that section of the btate which we ure proud to call—home. Thu charier fixes the. main line where we know il ie best for all the parlies interested that it should be fixed, whilst it authorizes branch roads to cny pan of the biate. We have not been, nor shall bo, recreant to tho interests with which havo been entrusted—we still retain such u c trol over this charter as would, if necessary, prevent the violation of either its letter or its spirit; but we are happy to stute that the gen tlemen who compose ihe Directory, ure inca pable oi such an uttempt. The Report of the Sancrintendent, Captain Parker, for the year 1852, affords the most gratifying evidence of the well being of the establishment under his kind and judicious care. The number of boarders and lodg ers daring the past year, amounting to eleven hundred and eighty-nine, shows a steady increase in number* as well asa deoidud improvement in their moral and physical condition. Of the above number, thirty or forty wore shipwrecked seamen, whoee wants were kind ly oared for, as far as circumstances would permit, and who, w« little doubt, wilt bear with them a grateful re collection of the Sailor's Home. Between forty and fif ty have signed the pledge of total abstinenco, which will readily account for the correct and orderly deport ment of the boarders generally, and must recommend the establishment to all interested iu the good temperance.
