TTTSTORY—Tho history of tho.e plasters would XJL occupy more space than can be spared in these limits. Suffice it to say, that the roost eminent chem ists aud physicians of the United States and of Europe were consulted as to their composition. But it was left to Mr. Allcock, who for seven yearshad the entire charge of Messrs. Itushton's Astor House store, to perfeutthem for public use. They are made porous, so that the e poration of the perspiration can goon nuffiuieutly wli... the plaster is applied, without, as with other plasters, causing the accumulation of acrid fluid, which oorodes the skin and occasions uinuy unpleasant sensations, not necessary for the cure or alleviation of affections for which a plaster is usually applied. They are tonio aud carminative, which renders them of peculiar value in many affoctions of the chest and bowels, more especially when a nervous character; they iu fact warm, and to a certain extent, vitalise the part upou which they are applied. Thosu strengthening, warming, and pain-rolieving plasters, w ill be found invaluable in weakness of the back, chronic rhoumatism.and contractions of the mua- ules; neuralgia, local nervous affoctions; in asthma, and pains in tho sido or ohest, especially when proceed ing from dyspepsia or weakness, or a souse of coldness at the nit of the stomach; iu ckrouic or recent affec tions of the kidneys; in cases of sprains, strains, or bruises ; and in nearly all cases where a loeal pain or weakness exists. The reader is especially referred to tho following tes timonials, more particularly to the letter from Dr. I. T. Henderson, whom, these plasters of Mr. Allcock cured of a nervous disease of the bowols of many years standing. Hr. I. T. Hemlernon’n Letter. Farnville, iMutiiana, March 8, 1850. Dr. T. Allcock, Sir :—I have been suffering under a severe attack of neuralgic disease of my bowels for years, w ith hyper- throphy of the heart, and have tried ovory thing known to the practice of medicine from tho very best M. D's.; but truth prompts me to say that your plasters have given me more permanent relief than anything else 1 nave used, and I believe will produce a perfect cure. I am wonderfully pleased with the counter-irritant effect of your plaster, for it is produoed in such a mild and gradual way, as well aa the invigorating action itgivos to tho capillary circulation around the parts to w hioh they are applied, with the great ner-ous sedative influ ence they exert upou all nervous diseases. ^ In conclusion, permit me to say, that I have had ex perience of the qualities of the plasters heretofore in uso, but must place yours at the head of them all. Ev ery medical man who becomes acquainted with them, will assuredly recommend his patients to uso no other than the Medicated India Rubber Plaster of Dr. Alleock. “ Yours very truly, I. T.
