ALLCOCK’S PLASTERS.
THE MEDICATED INDIA RUBBER PLASTER
Of the Nt* eieeuth C'eutury.
M ISTOllY—-The history of iho.« plasters would
occupy moro space than can be sparod in these
s. Butfkoo it to say, that tho inoat emluent chem
ists and physiclaus of the United States and of Europe
wore consulted as to their composition. Bnt it was left
to Mr. Allcook, who for seven years haul the entire charge
of Mewrs. Rushton's Astor House store, U "
for publio use. They are made porous, so
poratiou of the penpiration can goon sufficiently where
the plaster is applied, without, as with other piasters,
causing the accumulation of sorid fluid, which eorodes
the akin ud occasions many unpleasant sensations, not
oeoessary for the cure or alleviation of aScctions for
whioh a plash: is usually applied.
They are tonic and carminative, which renders thou
of peculiar valuo in many affections of the chest and
bowels, moro especisdly when a nervous character;
they in feet warm, and to a oertain extent, vifelise the
part upon whioh they are applied.
•“- 1 - * -
These strengthening, warming, and pain-relieving
plasters, will be found invaluable in weakness of the
back, ohronic rheumatism, and contractions tf the mus
cles; neuralgia, local nervous affections; ia asthma,
and naina ia tho aide or chest, especially when proceel-
ing from dyspepsia or weaknsss, or a sense of ooldneae
at the pit of the stomach; in ohroaio or recent affec
tions of the kidneys; ia eases of sprains, strains, or
bruises ; and in nearly all oases where a local pain or
weakaese exists.
The reader is especially referred to the following tos-
riuionials, moro particularly to the letter from Dr. I.
T. Henderson, whom those plasters of Mr. Allcook
oursd of a nervous disease of the bowels of many years
