Tlie Holy Alliance* Whatever may ho thu feelings of the com mercial class! s, and the aristocracy pf Eu rope in relation to the quarrel between Rus sia and Turkey—and by them wo have no doubt that war is deprecated as one of the grontest evils which could befall the world— there is one very largo portion of the commu nity who are eager for hostilities to com- ineuco. Wc allude to tho liberals—the revo lutionists and republicans ofltalv, Germany, Hungary and other countries. They cannot fail to seo thnt a general European war would conduco- to the development and success of their projects for revolutionizing Europe, and would give to their cause an impetus which would contribute materially to its success.— The liberals who huve sought un asylum in England from tho parseciitions of their own government, and from tho consequences of Choir opposition to that government, are seek ing to prepare the public mind for a war.— 'The English papers are full of communica tions in relation to the state of nffairs on the continent, which breathe a decidedly warlike spirit. We copy tho following communica tion from tho Liverpool Mercury not only to show the temper of this class of writers, hut also as giving a striking view, apparently from a well informed source, of the existing rela tions of the European powers. This comma mention contains many truths, expressed in luuguago of cutting sarcasm : RUSSIA AND THE HOLY ALLIANCE. “ So comes the reckoning whoa the banquet'd o’er, Tho dreadful reckoning, and men emiluno more." The Remedy for the Yellow Fever.- newspapers of British Guiana contain ac counts of a discovery of a remedy for (hat scourge of tropical America, the yellow fever. The discovery was made ot Angostura, in Venezula, or, as tho city is now called, Ciudad Bolivar. Tho remedy is the plant vervain nr verbena, which grows abundantly in that region. The expressed juice of tho leaves, given in small doses three times a day, with an enema of the snmo every two hours, is stated to he a perfect cure for the yellow fever and block vomit, even in their most threatening stages. All tho phy sicians of Angostura have adopted this treat ment of the disease, and they state that hardly ar y deaths have occurred under its influence. This information is furnished by Mr. Mathison, tho British Vice Counsel nt the above place.— The varieties of the verbena growing in the warm and temperate regions of the Wostern Wot Id are numerous.
