Hatch, of (ho Concordia, was recovering from a severe attack of chole ra. There had been sevoral fine showers of rain, considerably epoling the atmosphere, and it was hoped the disease would soon abate. Western Hogs.-From present appearances the number of hop* the next season will be large, particularly m Kentucky and Ohio. It is stated that a contract fur ft large number of hogs in Indiana has been made at $2 90, gross, to be delivered at the pens in the fall. The Dance of Death—A Cue tom of Chill* Aaua-ardiente and dulcea were handed round; while all, men and womou—the dan cers excepted—smoked their cigarillus. But the most remarkable thing in the room seemed to me a large kind of scaffold, which occupied tiis other cornflV opposite the bed, consisting of o light framework; ornamented all over with artificial flowers, little pictures of saints, and a quantity of small lighted wax candles. On the tup of it a moat extraordinary woll»made wax figure of a little child was seated on a low wooden chair, dressed in a snow-white lit tle frock; the eyes were closed, the pale cheeks tinged by a soft rosy hue, and the whole figure perfectly strewn with flowers.— It was so deceptive, that when I diew near at firat 1 thought it z real child, while a young woman below it, pale, and with tears in her eyes, might very well have been the mother Bui that waa moat certainly a miatake; for at tma moment one of the men stepped up to her find 'nvifW Jier to the dance, and a lew minutes snerwirofi she* was one of the merriest in the crowd. But it must really be child—no sculptor could have formed that little face so exquisitely; and now one light went out, close [o the little head, and tho cheek lost its rosy hue. My neighbors at last remarked the attention with which I looked upon the figure or child, whichever it was; and the nearest one inform- eo-tne, as far as 1 could understand him, that me little thing up there was really the child T woman with tho pale face, who was usncmgjuai then so merrily ; the whole festi- v ‘*y ‘sking place, in fact, only on account of [hat httle.angel. I ahook my head doubtful ly ; and my neighbor, to convince me, took n, y arm and led me to tho frame, where 1 had to step upon the chair and dearest table, and touch the cheek and hand of the child. It was J c «spee! And the mother, seeing I had doubtad it, but was now convinced, come up ’Jfi ami smilingly told me it bad been her child, and was now a little angel in heaven. The guitars and cacaes commenced wildly “Ram, and she bad to return to the dance. 1 , «the house, as in a dream, but afterwards m.i !.. e e *J*wnation of this ceremony.
