It has been feared by the moat of the farmers that it would result in an early frost. An early frost this year would about com plete the most disastrous crop year that cur farmers have had for a long time. There is u good deal depending upon the late crops, and good seasons are needed for ttisir maturing. fy Judge Mason, Urn newly reported French Minister, is lying dangerously ill at Richmond. po* Cotton Crop N Florida. The editor nf the Charleston Mercury has been politely furnished with the following letter from an intelligent and reliable source, by a mercantile bouse in that city : “Tallahassee, Sept. 17. The Caterpillars are not so bad as here tofore represented. A few days since I noticed them for iho fiiet time, and set them down as the first crop or hatch. Others say it is the second crop; in that case, cotton will be cut off nt Ieu6t a third. It : s hard to ultimate ii the loss, but you may rely on it that an av ago crop cannot he made, in addition, wl is usually the fairest portion of our crop, will this year be very soiry. I received a letter a lew days since from one of our Inigest and best planters, who plants in .he heart of tin greatest cotton growing district in the State Hu says that before the rains his crop was noi us good os usuul, “ though his neighbors soul theirs were very fine.” I lie Sen Island Lot- tun, on an average, wns better in comparison this year than the slum staple, up to ihe late rams, but has suffered more than the ol.ier from that cause, for this reason, thut with the short staple, utter it has sprouted, by sunning und keeping it tossed about until dned, we cun make u tolerable decent looking arlicl*-.; but when the Sea Island sprouts in the boll, it j* iiiipun.ibto iu roll ur gin it, from the fuel tbut the seed becomes suit ond crushes between die rollers, producing, as you know, a statued UII.I foul cotton sample. Of course the evil runs mi for weeks to collir, until nil llif vitb what opens Inter continues tbo difficulty. The Sea island platitcis must suw-gin thut portion nt their crop. They talk now of n loss id a third. I presume llm quantity of Sea Island thut will go through Newport und Cedar Keys du3 year, will lie between 4 and 51100 hides. ’ The Demonstration nl Now York. Fight with Indiant — Two American* Killed.—tn Ihe latter part of July, a man from Atkunsas, with his wife ami two sons (big boys) and some hull u dozen girls, (young sters,) reached Eslcto, en route to California. It scums that some distanco from here the iron lost all Ins cattle, (four yoke of oxen,) but was assisted to this place by some of Ins eompag- nonu de voyage. Another gentleman, writing from Mngofiins lie on the 2Utb till,, snvs to Ins IrienJ in Sun Me Ft ll tho circular purporting lobe addressed to the Minister of Austria is authentic, that Go vcriimout complains of Uupt. Ingraham's act as a menace of wur und a violation ol the lieu tiulity of Turkey. But in both respects the wrong and Ihe outrage were on the side ol Austiia. Koala was residing ut Smyrna, as wo leurn from Mr. Brown, under the protec tion of u Uskercte, grunted by tbo TmUisli Government at thu instance of the American Charge d'AlVuires, who intoicsted himself in Ins Iuvhi because bo had declared his intention to become an American citizen. Whether this ciiciimstance entitled him to such protection w as a question lor Turkey to decide, accord ing to her laws and usages. Under these cir cumstances, I cannot com eive that the Aus trian Unnsiil had any more right to send on armed fince to seize him, than wo would hav. bad, twoyuaiH ago, to ncikI an armed force up to Kntavah to seize the whole body ol Hull- ginisii lelugees. Important questiuns nf law, both municipal and international, present themselves m the case, some of which are now. On these ques tions—as our infuiiiiQliun uf fads is incomplete and unofficial—1 reserve my judgment. A letter wns also read from lion. R. J. Walker, approving L’upt.
