A wriier in the Augusta Constitutionalist recommends on alteration in the Judiciary ays' tern of the State, so far as relates to ihe Interi or Courts of the several counties, by enacting t law to have but oneJudgoor Justice, and allowing him a small compensation, sufficient however, to ensuro the services of a competent Judge. This alteration, remarks tho writer, has been often suggested of late in my pre «cuce, oud I have no doubt but what it is gen erally desired over the State. Let it bo kept free from party politics. Let the press gone rally in tho State give a small share of atten lion to tho matter, and tho change will be adopted. When a lawyer is elected to the of- hce, let him practiso in other Courts, and by that means you can secure the services of a competent member of the bar for a less com ptosation than you could, if ho was prohibited horn practice in the Superior aud Courts of Drdinary. An Incident in a Conckkj Room.—On ednesday night, in Washington City, while hietiermanias were performing a fine sympho- ny from Beethoven, the large hall at Carusi’B eing crowded, tho President of the United ‘ lalus entered, accompanied by C. L. Ward, rsq., of Towanda, Pa., and Mr. Webster, his Private Secretary, wheroupon the Germanias instantly changed the music to Hail Coluui- ,ia * an d most of the audience rose in respect or the presence of the Chief Magistrate of the country and its glorious national anthem. Morrissey, tbe Prize-Fighter, Dead. James Morrissey, who fought with Yankee ‘-‘'Uivan, on Wednesday, for a wager of $2,000 near Boston Four Corners, on the line of the ‘W York and Harlem Railroad, died on Fri day afternoon from the cffecta of the injuries he received in the brutal encounter. His face «nd head was cut and beat as to present a jnost horrible spectacle. Warrants have been issued for the arrest of Yankee Sullivan, as We ll as for the four seconds—Andeo Shehan, Wm. Wilson, Awful Gardiner, and Thomas O'Donnell. The affair has caused great ex citement in New York. Death of Tristram Burgess.-Tbe Hon. Iriutram Burgees, for many years U. S.
