A correspondent of the Savannah Courier notices «be two projects of Railroad connection between Georgia snd South Carolina, vtes a Road direct from Charleston to Sarannah, and n Road from the latter to BranchviHe; and on the supposition that the first of these is exclusively n Charleston interest a* the letter Is manifestly an interest of Savannah at the expeosogff Chortesteo, be propow«.»h«t he is, .. r _. pleased to caB a compromise, to harmonize them.— organrnatlon was made-belt. It Is that Georgia shonld allow these roads to cross Resolved, That unless oficialiy notified that the rirer by a bridge In common, on condition that ~~ “ South Carolina shall give charters to both of them. We are somewnat accustomed now adays to com promises, in which one party gate all, oo condition that (bey shall not demand more then all the matters in dispute, but this proposition from Savannah goes ereo beyond the impudence of the Norik at Wash* ingtoa. We bad supposed that It wan as much the interest of Savannah as of Charleston, that there should bo a direct and cheap communication l»e* tween them. We bad no idea that they would ask us to buy the right ol crossing the fiver and erect ing a depot in their city. We had not supposed that ehoeoil of Georgia wan no very seered that it coeld not. be touched without paying an eoormus price for (he privilege: and for our part we certainly shall not adriae the ratification of any such self-conceited notion. If people ednitot go to Savannah without paying ranaosn. tipsy can at least stay away. But since this matter of compromise of interests between the two cities has been broached, we take leave to propose what we think is s compromise knvisf really two sides to it. Savsnnah wishes a communication with (he North by the directest line, via: by a road to Branch.ille, which would carry all her trarel and business far away from Charles ton. Ob the other hand, the latter wants n connec tion by the shortest route with Macon, Columbus Montgomery, aud all that region. Let Sarannah have her road to Braocbville, on cordilion that Charleston shall be allowed to have a connection with the Central Railroad at its great bend, which would be io a direct line with Macon. Of course it is understood that each city shall build its own road—-that by which it is to be bencfilted at the ex pense of the other. This we call a fair compro mise. What aays Savanoah I nod if Savannah is mute, what says Macon, and what says the State of Georgia 1—Charleston Mercury. [From the AegMteOsnstiteUsnalist- ] The only transactions in Stocks this week that have come to our knowledge, was the sale ol 80 shares Georgia Railroad at $103. The present tightness of the money market has noi only a de pressing influence on Stocks, but on trade in gneral. So fearful are our Banks, (if we are correctly in formed! of each other, that by the present line of policy pursued by all, It is difficult to get the bet snort time paper done, or a draft at short dale on Sarannah or Charleston discounted. This, in our opinion, is suicidal policy on their pari. Wo have in Augusta some five banks, with large capitals, but under present state of things we would have more money In circulation If we had only one or two, for then neither would aland in the ethers way. Under ihfe present system of doing business, each Bank seems to bs fearful of the other, aud si the very (line our merchants and citimeus want accommodations they are uot to be had. The effect of this will be in the course of three or four weeks, instead of the interior of Georgia being supplied with Georgia money, that of South Carolina will take its place, fur every day thousands upon thousands find their wsy to this city, and are scattered through the Slate to porch*.* Cotton, when bills at :w ami 00 days, drawn on Charleston, were preriously used by our merchants io transacting their business. It seem* hard that our merchants at home should be deprived of the means of doing their local business, when services arc sooner dispensed with, wo, the late members of the Savannah Fire Company, will rec- ogaixe our late officers as in command, and that in' case of Fire wa will appear and aid at the ewgioce •nd other appparalns nailer our charge until Tues day, at noon. Be it Resolved, That our lata Chief Fireman, Mr. Alvin N. Miller be requested to notify His He«nv the Mayor, early on Monday to this effect, that ho may cause the Chief Fireman seasonably to appoint managers in the several departments to take charge of the same. Be it |Resolved, That we appear at the Engine Hou.e on Tuesday, at jioon, punctually, aod deliver the apparatus under our charge to the new man agers. Be it Resolved, That Mr. Alvin*N. To the Hon. Yesterday about one o'clock, the inmates of the house No. 80 Bourbon street, were startled by the •harp report of a pistol, and then another, followed by a fall as of heavy bodies on the floor of one of the inuer rooms. Rushing into the room, the occu pants of the house found a young and beautiful wo rn m—Madam Ellenor Fouget, wife of Charles Sage, •jii'g prostrate on (he floor, purple with blood, and apparently struggling iu the death agony. Near her lay the body ol a man whose bloody brains covered the floor, with bis .hull blown to nieces, and quite dead. Iu each hand he held a pistol, with one of which he had tired at the woman, and with the other had slain himself, ft theu appeared that a servant of the house hud b«en present, who had seen both the attempted murder and the after suicide. Having made strict inquiry, wo learned the fol lowing facts. The woman was a native of Franco, married to Charles Sage, and the twain hud lived in Cincinnati! where the deceased became acquaint ed with them. Madame Ssge, had kept u cigar store in that city, on Sixth street between Alain and WuInnt'Stresis. With her extreme beauty and ai* tract! veuess she drew around her a host of customers, among them the deccused, and the profits of the little shop were booh made the means of the pur chase of other property. 8uge removed with his wife to Lutona Springs, on the Kentucky >ido of the Ohio river, and only Iwo or three miles from Cin cinnati, where he purchased a house. Thither the deceased, whose name was J. Bedford, followed them, having beconio so desperately enamored of Msrtamc that living out of her presence was to him a thing uusupportable. Heie also Bedford pur chased a property, and falling into bai heulth, win taken to iho house of Sage, whore he wus nursed by Madame until his recovery. Her constuut friendly visits to him during his sickness increased Ills passion, aud on bis convalescence ho resolved io follow the pair to this city, whither Mttdamo came to fill an engagement as an actress in Vaudtvilles, in the Orlunns Theatre. They cuine down on tho steamer J. S.-Clienoweth, and having arrived hero on Sunday, Madame and her husband took rontna at the house wheretiie trag edy occurred. On the trip down Bedford had taken frequent occasions to declare his passiua for Alutl- ame and even went so far as to propoie an elope ment. This proposition, it would appear, she had rejected, and failed to make kuowu the overtures made her, fearing that from the desperate char ictar of her admiror that some fatal violence might take place be* ween him and her husband. Bedford had frequently threatened Aladamu that if she did lint comply with his wishes he would lake her life.— Yesterday he resolved to renew bis importunities, but finding the virtuo of Madaine proof against hit inductive solicitations, entered her room aud the re sult was at we have related. He did not, however, proceed to extremities without having made a final effort to compass hia desires. With the weapons in his bauds aud with words of burning attachment on his lips, ho once more renewed his importunities, which failing, hi. hellish instincts were aroused and the catastrophe as was stated. Madame received a shot in the cheek, which passed to tho other side, inflicting a frightful anil probably fatal wound.— With the remaining piatol the man blowout his own brains f At tho last accounts Madame wasliugering thus with the , r the motive of the above resolutions.
