Shortly be forn the rising of the curtain the audienco wore sud denly aroused from the tedium, always incident to the precaution of going curly in order to secure seats, by heuring an unusual buzz and bustle out side, .ind by the active movements and arrangement* of the energetic Mr. Ford within, ns if in prepara lion for the reception of " honored guests." There was a simultaneous pause in the interesting conver sations which were being held in the dross circle; and lips that were parted and dosed In sweetest uc. cents, stood, in the same instant, widn ugnpn in mu test wonder. 'l'h*< parquette paid silimt tribute to the injunction, "Oh Hush," uud the galleries, a* ii in pursuance of a concerted arrangement, resolved themselves iuio Committees of investigation, to iu quire into iho.cause ofjtlie commotion : one of them betaking themselves to the lobbies to watch the pro grass jof events from that point, whilst the other suspended over the facade, looked with peering eyes, for the denoument in tho regions below. All for thn moment wm wrapped iu expectancy, nnd ti tmice pervaded the ontirn scene ; when suddenly a* it had boon excited, tho wonder of tho uudiencoguve place to an astonithtuaul no less perplexing or inex plicable, as they discovered through the enlrnnco- to the dress circle and parquette, numbers of strange nnd uniquely dressed figures moving to and fro, in the passage. Presently dm doorwuys were filled with groups of these *' tile observed of all observers," and tho audience recognizing them by their resemblance to the figures that usually accompany tlio descrip tions of Chiui, iu their Goorgrapliios, and which are tho slumps that iudicatn the gniiuiunun»s of Suuolioog, lloliea, and Ilysnu, became uwurn of their buiug surrounded by colestiuls. Two pages of Iho New York Herald of Thursday last aro filled witn tho proceedings of the greut mass mooting of tho Hardshell Democrats, to cele brate what they call their recent victory in that State.
