F., IN SENATE. Nillkdkvillk, Dec. 6th, 1853. Mr. Editor:—The Senato met at the usual hour ofii o'clock this morning. Several local bills wore introduced, and among them waione to amend the acta relating toilio Cot* poraiion of tbo city of Griffin, etc. Mr. Pope offered a resolution for tbe consideration of the "Census and new county" committees, that they may be enabled to report the number of Ru* pre»entativea allowed to each county, in accordance with tho proviaions of the constitution. Several of the old counties will lose a membor, and among them •Old Wilkes," while Oglethorpe, Irwin and others, barely sure their distance by a few hundreds. Tho resolution was agroed to, and ia a few duys we will hire tlio Report. Mr. McLeod introduced a bill to make permanent the public buildings in Emanuel county at Swuint- boro’. The bill to incorporate tho McDonough Collegiate Seminary, was read tho third time and passed. Tbe Justices' of tbe Peaco Jurisdiction Bill came ip, snd Mr. Dawson moved to amend as follows : That tbo jurisdiction of Justices of the Peace be restricted and limited tn the sum of twenty dollais including interest." Several Senators argued for the iucrcuso instead of curtailment, and if many of ike dignitaries over Georgia had been listeners-we doubt not—they would have felt their dignity so much increased, as to have produced some ludi* troui, if not alarming aymptoma! When it be* comes known to tbe country, that not many inontha igo, in a certain county in this State, a writ waa •erred upon a negro for alandtrtng a white man—tl e vas tried, convicted and received 100 lashes I The people porhaps will thiuk tbe Court rather ex- reeding its jurisdiction in the premises; but thi. is * isolated instance of the administration of vpromptu law$ in that department of the Govern* «ot. After some discussion and soverul amend* •nts tho yeas and nays were taken on its passage J roaulted in nays 45 and yeas 34. So the bill with its road of araondinonts, went ever board" again, wkero it will probably remain. To enable us all to “ Ox up” and nttend the Gov* mor’s Leveo to-night, where it is the wont of tl e crack-heeled democracy" from all parts of Geoi- |ii to congregate— The Senate adjourned until half-past 9 o'clock to. narrow morning. p.
