There was mueh of true democracy in the scene which I witnessed on last night. Every variety of our countrymen was there, ail of whom realized that equality of whioh it is common to boast Many foreigners could bo discover ed amidst this assembly teaching loan Impressive niinuer by their presenoe the fact that our country ii an asylum for the oppressed of ell nations, Groat couftiion hut no strife prevailed. It was the iuovitablo consequence of such an association, Tho guests, I bolieve, retired from the elegant and bounteous board fully supplied with tho luxuries iproad. It is the prevailing opinion here that Gov, Johnson is a great man and that Mrs. Johnson is a great woman. The House convened at 91$, and passed a bill to incorporate the city of Dalton. Mr. Xrice, of Pike, who seems to regard himself as the body guard pro ptr of the Constitution and laws of this State, of fered his old amendment, to wit: That the powers horoin conferred shall not be so construed as t conflict with the Constitution and laws of this State. This amendment was adopted. The memorial of Judge Scarborough, preferring the charge of mal-practice in office against the Hon Abner P. Powers, was read, and laid for the present upou the table. Bills read the first time. Mr. Shewraaker— A bill to repeal so much of the llih Hoc. of the 3d Art. of the Constitution, as pro hibits any one Irom holding the office of Sheriff for two consecutive terms. Also—A bill appropriating monoy for the im provemeut of Brior Creek. Mr. Hardemau—A bill for the relief of the securi ties bf Richard Persctt, late Tax Collector of Bibb county. A bill to amend the 2d 8ectioa of an Act author- zing tho construction of a Magnetic Telegraph to the city of Macon. Also—-A bill giving to painters a lion on buildings in certain cases. Mr. Green—A bill to incorporate Macon Manufac turing Company. Mr. West—A bill to incorporate the South-West ern Bank of Georgia in the town of Fort Gaines. Mr. Cleveland, of Habersham—A bill requiring all grants for fractions of land to be taken out by tho 1st day of July, 1854. Mr. Brown—A bill to change the time of holding tho Suporior Courts for the county of Marion, and extend the terras of said Courts to two instead of one week. Mr. McDougald—A bill requiring Judges of the Superior Courts to have all parol evidence reduced to writing. Mr. Irwin—A bill to amend the root laws of tl is State. Also—A bill to allow the equitable remedy of sj e* cilic performance in cettuin coses. Mr. McCurdy—A bill to amend the Constitution of this Stalo, so as to reduce the number of Jui* tices of the Inferior Court to one. Mr. Sweat—A bill appropriating money for the improvement of Big Satilla and Altatnaha Rivers, Mr. Griffin—A bill requiring tho Assistant Clerks ef the House to be elected by ballot, as the princi pal Clerk now is, and to prescribo the number. Mr. Walton—A bill authorising distributions of estates in certain cases therein mentioned. Mr. McMillan—A bill appropriating money to de fray the expenses of the State for tho political yeur, 1604 and '55. Mr. Stapleton—A bill investing Justices of the !■. ferior Court with the exclusive power of granting or withholding license to retail spirituous liquors. Mr. Stewart, of Hancock—Resolved, That the General Assembly will take a recess from the 17lb iust. to the 2d Monday in January next. On motion the House adjourned until 3 P. M. IN SENATE. Mr. EditorThe Senate met this morning at the usual hour, aud after tho reading of the Jour nals, the usual course of business would have been the order of tho day—the Woman’s bill—but the or der was suspended, and A bill wus introduced relating to the Court of Oyor and Terraiuer in your city, aud buiug read a third time was passed. Tho next business was the introduction of a bill to lay out and form a new county from DeKalb, mak- iug Atlanta the county site, aud to be called Fulton, in memory of the renowned inventor of Steam pro- pellers. Petitions for and against were preseuted, and Mr. Pope, of Wilkes, moved to lay the bill on the table for the remainder of the 8essiou, This brought up several gentlemen for and against, who discussed the question. Mr. Popo then with, drew his motion to “Juuo*’lit, and the "William” was put on its Anal passage, and the yeas aud nays being rocorded, stood Yeas 44, and Nays 29.—So the bill was passed. Mr. Robinson, of Macon, introduced a bill to aub* mil the question of removal of the C. II. in Macon county to tho people of the couuty.
