Lecture nest Tuesday Night
Capt. T. VV. .White will lecture
publicly, at Templars Hall, Tues
day night, 6ih August. Subject “Ad
ventures on the plains and Rocky
Mountains, during the ‘Gold Fe*
ver.’ ”
The committee promise an agree
able evening to such as have a taste
lor a “feast of reason and flow of
of the advocacy. Another Ode, an
address by Bro. M. Grieve, of Mil-
ledgevill Lodge, another Ode still,
and the intellectual part of the en-
lertainment closed.
We cannot do justice to Bro. G’s.
speech, without extravagance. SuL
fice it to say, he exceeded his own
reputation as a speaker, holding the
wrapt attention of the tired crowd,
for nearly an hour. But it was re«
served for the master of ceremonies
to illustrate the power of eloquence.
The few brief remarks, with which
he closed the exercises, were truly
electrical in their effect. The thrilled
multitude, as by a commom impulse
sprang to their feet. As the old Athe
nians, pervaded with Demosthenic
power, forgot the Orator, in their
zeal to be “lead against Phillip”—
50 these Georgians, oblivious of
rhetoric and eloquence, with minds
full of the rich savors, that smoked
on the lengthy tables, moved to the
filling of their bodies also. Half
their success would have secured
old Athens against the Macedonian.
Alas, “passing away” is writ on
all things mundane. The shadows
would grow long. The “rosy-fin
gered Aurora” would bathe her
weariness in the Western Sea. The
bright eyes, “that looked love to
eyes, that spake again,” dispursed
to their homes to rest, to sleep—per
haps to dream of pigs and kids and
lambs and Temperance.
Prices to suit the times.—Money is
scarce, and prices at Cook’s are marked
down accordingly.

Another Curb for Hydropho
bia.—We have already published
several remedies for this dreadful
malady, but as every discovery is of
interest, we add the following from
the Morristown (Pa.) Free Press:
Hydrophobia can be prevented,
and 1 will give you what is known
to be an infallible remedy, if prop
erly administered, for man and beast.
A dose for a horse or cow, should be
about four times as great a3 for a
person. It is not too late to give
the medicine any time before the
spasms come on. The first dose
for a person is one and a half ounces
of elecampane root, bruised, pul in
a pint of milk, reduced to one-half
by boiling, then taken all at one
dose in the morning, fasting until
afternoon, or at least a very light di
et after several hours have elapsed.
The second dose the-same as the
first, except take two ou^es of the
root; third dose same as tne last, to
be taken every other day. Three
doses are all that is needed, and
there need be no fear. This I know
from my own experience, and 1
know of a number of other cases
wh^rd it hao been entirely success*
ful.
This is no guess work. These

!’ V PFRINGE BARBACUE
Last Thursday* was a great day in
old Baldwin. The ample prepara
tion made by the Montpelier Lodge.!
for the inner and outer
their guests, were compensated by
the presence of about one thousand
people, bent on being happy them
selves, and communicating the in
fection. More than one hundred
members of Milledgeville Lodge
were present. The Order of the
dav was preceded by a Templars
procession, three Lodges being rep
resented, to the arbor, where a
siand and seals were provided. An
Ode was sung with spirit, a prayer
offered by Bro. Jarrell, of Milledge-
y ille Lodge, another Ode, and then
Bro. J. M. \\ hitaker of Montpelier
Lodge, delivered himself of an ad
dress, replete with practical truth,
found sense, and earnest persuasion,
c 'ad in chaste diction and facile
rhetoric.
Another Ode was followed by an
address by Bro. Morris, of Pleasant
Lrove Lodge. The large reading,
penned up to see if they would go
mad; they did go mad, and did bite
the persons. This remedy has been {
used in and about Philadelphia for
forty years or longer, with great
success, and is known as the Good
man remedy. I am acquainted
with a physician who told me that
he knows of its use for more than 30
years, but never knew a case that
failed where it was properly admin
istered. Among other cases he
mentioned, was one where a num
ber of cows had been bitten by a
UC1 ^, mad dog. To half the number they
fnr . nf ! administered this remedy, to the
comfort of[ other hi|f . lhe u, ter „U dted
with hydrophobia, while those that
took the elecampane and milk show
ed no signs of the disease.

Gl'LLETT’S IMPROVED AND LIGHT DRAFT
COTTON GIN.
Frice $4r Per Saw.
T HESE GINS were sold the past season
for the first time. They are made under
Mr. Gullett’s personal supervision, at his
works in Louisiana, who never allows one to
be sent from his works until it has been fully
tested, and made to gin perfectly in every res
pect. This mode of testing is very important
to the purchaser, as he does not run the. risk
of receiving and setting up a Gin to find it, on
trial, to he imperfect.
The IMPROVED GIN differs materially
from the Steel Brush Gin formerly sold by us,
inasmuch as the Steel Brush has three brush
es, while the New Gin has but one.
We guarantee every Gin to be of very li 1 t
draft, to thoroughly clean the seed,* and make
a superior sample. Besides, it is simple in
its construction, easily adjusted and gins very
fast.
We respectfully refer to all those who have
used the Improved Gin the past Winter.
Planters wishing Gins will consult their own
interests by either writing to us for our Circu
lar with Certificates, or calling at our oflice
aud examini g for themselves before purchas
ing elsewhere.
"j^We will take back every Gin which
does network well when fairly tested, and
nav all expenses incurred by the purchaser.
