< Q. | like to work out, but with the season’s warmer temperatures my
.~ hair __ takes a beating. What can |do to prevent dryness for a
. . /" personactive like me?
B A Ifyouareintosports and need to wash your hair every
‘4 day, don't use a regular shampoo because it tends to strip the
| @ hair. Use amild, non-stripping shampoo that is less irritatirig to the
scalp butbrings the type of results you desire. To prevent dryness
411 in Style recommends that you use an oil moisturizer hair
T W otion and that you wash and condition your hair at least once
f;ffgfi%fifi A aweekto prevent build-up of dirt, oils, and the accumulation
T * of salts contained in perspiration which is, in itself, exces
' sively drying. '

SUMMER
“What goes up must come down,” perhaps the eighties’ best
known advocate of legs cut so high that they revealed hipbones’
and almost everything else up to the waist. Those infamous”
“French-cut” legs, which purported to make legs look longer and
thinner (an effect that 1
seemed to work only on wom- i
enwhoalready had long, thin
legs), are still in evidence, 3
although these days they
rarely rise past the pelvis. 1 U
Swimwear has to have a :
broader appeal now, and the Is 0L R 1R E
baby boomers who wore high- AIV NV G
cut suits have gotten older " :
and need another, possibly | Note S
more flattering, look. : e

Get That Body Toned i
It’s been coming on for the last five years: every major manufac
turer now has a body enhancement line featuring things likei
tummy-tuckers, shirring for small busts, and skirt effects. That’si
coupled with a trend toward more coverage. Now 80 percent of all:
suits sold are one-piece. Body-enhancing construction is also:
infiltrating fashion waterwear. Some of it is subtle, like higher:
armholes that lend support to less-than-perky busts. Others are::
more blatant, like the padded push-up bras that look like lingerie: <
If there’s only so much to be done with the body that goes into the
suit, the alternative is to change the suit that goes onto the body.:r
Less is no longer more. » o
A Little Attitude Goes A Long Way In Swimwear -
“A bathing suit means a woman is sticking out there to be"
judged.” Mention bathing suits and women go berserk. They start”
drawing attention to everything they don’t like about their bodies.**
Most women don’t seem to realize that half the battle is attitude,*
anyway. Self-consciousness spoils any suit. And being in touch"
with your sexuality makes almost anything you wear look better.

: When you're look- !
ing for a new pair
of shades for this »
summer, youwant 1
#" the jazziest lenses 1
and snazziest frames. 5
That’s all right, but if you care 1
about your health as much as your -
style, then you've got to start with sun- »
glasses that protect against invisible ultraviolet
(UV)radiation, which is beamed down from the sun. If your eyes
are overexposed to these rays, you run a higher risk of developing
cataracts down the road. Here’s how to scope out specs with ¢
adequate UV protection . )
*Don’t Be Fooled. You can’t judge UV protection by the o
darkness of your lenses, “so shop at a reputable store, make sure >
the labels offer 99 to 100 percent UV protection, or stick with o
name brands.” 3
*Test Your Specs. Ask your eye-care professional which ¢
facilities can test your unlabeled sunglasses on an ultra-violet -
machine. For S2O to $25, you can even add a UV coating to your \
lenses. ‘
