Augusta Symphony presents
Master Works Il season finale
Under the direction of Maestro
Donald Portnoy, the Augusta
Symphony completes its
Master Works II series for the
1994-95 season, featuring the
Augusta Choral Society. The con
cert takes place at 7:30 p.m.,
Sunday, May 7th at Augusta
College’s Maxwell Performing
Arts Theatre. Note that the 7:30
performance time reflects a
change from last season. Also,
this concert is a special Sunday
night performance.
The Symphony and the Choral
Society will perform Elijah, Felix
Mendelssohn’s oratorio based on
the story of the prophet Elijah in
the First and Second King sec

numbers in it have been used as
independent selections.

performance are soprano Ann
Benson, mezzo-soprano Sandra
Walker, baritone William
Parcher, and tenor Melvin
Brown, who also serves as Music
Director for the Augusta Choral
Society.

is putting together yet another
fantabulous exhibit, so ink it in
your calendar. Inred. .
It’s called Arts Domestic: Fine
Arts and Crafts for or about the
Home, and runs from May 13
through June 30. As usual, the
public is cordially invited to a
reception honoring the artists on
Saturday, May 13, from 5 p.m.
until 8 p.m. There is no charge.
There will be works by nine
artists. Regular gallery “exhibi
tionists” include Malaika Favor
ite (prints), Be Gardiner (marble
sculpture), Janis Hutchison (fi
bre sculpture), Gretchen Lothrop
(metal sculpture and functional
objects), and Rebecca Norman
(jewelry and aluminum lamps).
New gallery artists include
Jennifer Gardiner (ceramics),
Joel Haas (ornaments for the
garden), Andrew Jones
(decoupage furniture), Melinda
Moore Lampkin (fabric collage
wall pieces).
The common thread in this
eclectic collection is vibrant color
that inspires a mirthful spirit.
Don't forget: the Ergo Sum is
located at 302-304 Sixth Street,
on the corner of Ellis. If you can’t
make the reception, the gallery
is open Wednesday through Fri
day from 11 a.m. ‘til 6 p.m.; Sat
urday, noon ‘til 5 p.m.
