She completed the core curricu
lum for USCA, was selected for
the R.N. Upward Mobility Pro-

Helen K. Chester, 1..P.N., be
ganworking on a V.A. psychiatric
unitin August 1989 after 14 years’
experiencein Tennessee and Mis
sissippi. She has consistently been
an outstanding employee. Ms.
Chester was also selected as the
VISN recipient.
George W. Cummings, N.A.,
began his V.A. career in Novem
ber 1971 after serving in the mil
itary. He works on a neuroclogy/
neurosurgery unit where he con
sistently assessessafety needsand
pain status. Mr. Cummings was
also selected VISN recipient.
Mr. Whatley commented, “We
are very proud of our nursing staff
and in particular those who have
been chosen as this year’s recipi
ents.”

el, four years in a row.
Mr. Perry and Mr. Patterson
were two of nearly 800 regional
winners in various vocational
specialties who met in Atlanta to
compete for the state honor. The
regional winners represented 45
different trade, technical, and
health occupations, and leader
ship competitions. Winners were
chosen on the basis of demon
stration of technical skills, safe
ty practices and knowledge of
the VICA.
