AUGUSTA FOCUS Staff Writer
The Good Luck Card, alocal project begun by
resident Carnell Eubanks, has a final total of
4,156 signatures. The project wasbegunin the
fall of 1996 by Mr. Eubanks to show support and
good wishes for Augusta-born astronaut, Lt.
Cmdr. Susan Still, and her fellow crewmates of
shuttle mission STS-83. With the enthusiastic
efforts of the USS Star League, thelocal chapter
of STARFLEET, the International Star Trek
Fan Association, the Good Luck Card grew
steadily in fame as well as in the number of
signatures collected. Sign-up sheets were set up
in 15local businesses and libraries; at a promo
tional weekend at Regal Cinemas for the pre
miere of Star Trek: The First Contact movie; at
the fall 1996 Augusta Con, a sci-fi weekend
Georgia DNR holds
permit drawing
The Georgia Departmentof Natural Resources
will accept lettersofapplicationfromMarch 1-15 for
arandom drawing of 150 permits for hunting and
fishingon post. Theletters must be fromindividu
als not associated with Fort Gordon.
The drawing will be held March 17 at the
Thomson office of the Georgia DNR.
Letters should request entry into the public
access draw for Fort Gordon and include the
applicant’sname, addressandsocial securitynum
ber. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older.

versity in February. Star Trek

in Greenville, S.C. The USS Ron
McNair, a nearby STARFLEET
chapter based in Columbia, S.C.
and named after a former astro
naut, also contributed signatures
to the Good Luck Card.

The most recent highlight took
place this past weekend on Satur
day, March 8, when the 4,156-
signature Good Luck Card was
presented by the USS Star League
to Dr. Joseph M. Still Jr., father of
Lt.Cmdr. Still. Laterthismonth, the
card will be presented to the shuttle
astronautsbefore theirlaunch.
Thanksto Mr. Eubanks, the USS
Star League, the residents of Au
gusta, the USS Ron McNair and
others, the astronauts of shuttle
mission STS-83 will launchon April
3rd with atleast 4,156 good wishes
for a safe and successful voyage.
