More Time Management Questions Answered
Again, thanks to all of you who
took the time to write me. Your
letters and calls are always wel
come. Here are the answers to
more of the most frequently
asked questions.
You have finally succeded in
getting permission to do some of
your work at home. However,
you constantly get distracted by
things around the house that
need your attention.
1. Act the way you do when you
leave the office. Set specific work
hours, dress professionally, then
leave the house, walk around the
block, and reenter your house to
start your day’s work.
2. Schedule two hours of solid
work time with 30-minute
breaks. During the break, you
can relax or do a personal task
without guilt. Then return to
work.
3. Gather all the items you will
need for a work project together
before you start. This way, you
will not need to search the house
for an item and get distracted by
something else.
You use lists and calendars,
but sometimes you miss your
deadlines, and there are some
projects you just keep putting
off-sometimes for many months.
How can you break the procras
tination habit?
- 1. Focus on the benfits you will
receive immediately upon com
pleting the task.
- 2. Initially focus less on find
ing the perfect method or proce
dure. Get started first, and then
polish later.
. 3. Do the most unpleasant
thing on your list the first thing
in the morning. Get it out of the
way.
4.Start small. Break big projects
into small, easy-to-manage steps.
Spending twenty minutes on a
task is a good beginning.

5. Give yourself a reward for
completing the task.
You would like to delegate more
often, but you are concerned
about giving all your work away
and overloading others.
1. Delegate portions of projects,
not the entire item.
2. Analyze each staff person
and delegate tasks that will help
them grow and develop.
3. Consider temporarily remov
ing some regular work to make
space for the new project.
4. Remember that delegating
allows you the time to do those
projects you are uniquely quali
fied to do. Focus on the key activi
ties like coaching and planning
