Marshall’s quest provides opportunities for local youth
Once again, NFL stand-out
Arthur Marshall, one of the CSRA’s
brightest native son’s, has called
upon his pro pigskin buddies to
help raise funds toassist the Quest
Foundation provide educational
enrichment and other programs,
geared to help the youth of our
community. In case you are un
aware of the event, it’s officially
entitled the “Celebrity Weekend.”
Last year, Marshall helped bring
in NFL stars Deion “Prime Time”
Sanders and Michael Irvin, just to
name a few notable people who
showed uptogive Marshall and the
Quest Foundation a hand in the
community-buildingendeavor.
Duringthese often dark and lowly
times of our modern sports history,
when players’ embarrassing skir
mishes with the law are often pub
licized, it’s indeed refreshing to
realize some players care about the
next generation. Some realize that
the role théy hold in our society is
a powerful and influential one.
These players have the power to
change the course of young lives
gone astray while keeping those
who are on the right path inspired

just watch the gleam in a young

names of Garrison Hearst
(Lincolnton native) or Sterling
Sharpe (former NFL All-Pro and
current ESPN analyst). Both men
played prominent roles last year
participating in Celebrity Week
end activitiesorganized by Marshall
and the staff of Quest Foundation
USA. The smiles on the faces of
hundreds of youngsters jockeying
to get autographs really told the
true value of their visit.
Well, it’s time for the fun to
commence once again. The Third
Annual Celebrity Weekend kicks
offwith a friendly basketball game
on Saturday, a gala banquet on
Sunday and a golftourney on Mon
day. Locals will get a chance to
meet, greet and perhapseven mingle
with the stars often seen toilingon
the progridiron each Sundayin the
fall. Arthurorchestrated atremen
dous concept that has really cap
tured the imagination of both the
casual and die-hard sportsfanatics
livingand workingin Georgia-Caro
lina. (By the way, this is the same
Arthur Marshall that was an All-
Star athlete for the Hephzibah
Rebelsin thelate 80s,and later the
University of Georgia.) He offers
words of encouragement to any
youngster that crosses his path.
Some may not know who he is at
first,but once they find out, a sense
ofimportance suddenly flourishes
within their bodies. It’s hard for

Those without vision are said to
have no hope. Those without hope
are thought to have no future.
Marshall’s efforts in Augusta are
helping those with blurred vision
tobegin tofocus, and those without
hope todream of abrighter future.
