In Memory of Barry J. Young, Who Passed Away 1 Year Ago January 5, 1976. You were with us a year ago Though it seems like only yesterday You were here to know And share happiness in your own special way. Many are the tears we've cried Many times we've tried to understand But life had taken its toll, you had grown tired And God needed you, too, to carry out His plan. Although life is almost impossible to live without you We console ourselves by knowing your life is at peace forevermore And, son, one day soon we'll be with you Questions will be answered, love united, and hurt will be no more. He was our pride, our joy, our life and hope . . . But most of all . . . "He was loved". Sadly Missed by His Parente, Mr. & Mrs. J. F. Young Mrs. Morris stresses excellence “Its twelve o’clock high noon — show down time,” said Mrs. Juanita Morris, Griffin High English Teacher, as she spoke at St. Phillips A.M.E. Church. The event was the annual Emancipation Program sponsored by the Emancipation Committee of which A.C. Touchstone is chairman. Kenneth Barlow, a Griffin High Senior, read the Emancipation Proclamation. Mrs. Morris reviewed the black man’s struggle and progress up to and since the 1950’5. She emphasized the importance of accepting and appreciating self; and the need for striving for excellence. “It’s show down time,” she said as she reminded the audience of outstanding achievers in sports and other areas. “We must not forget Rayfield Wright, Wyomia Tyus, Willie Jordan, Johnnie Roberts, Mattiwilder Dobbs, Carl Horton, Lonnie Clemons, Curtis Jones, and many others,” she said. “It’s show down time in Griffin government, in the home, in the schools, and in the community,” she said. She stressed the need for excellence; the need for a new attitude and mental outlook that present situations demand.
