J Crumbly, Professor of
Biology at Fort Valley State
College, has received a
$199,000 grant from the
Environmental Protection
Agency to investigate use of
industrial waste heat for
greenhouse production of
bedding plants, cut flowers
and foliage plants
"Water that is used in
industry for cooling purposes
is described as waste heat ",
said Dr Crumbly "In the
past, the normal procedure
has been to dump discharged
cooling water coming from
industrial factories back into
rivers, lakes or man-made
cooling ponds requiring vast
acreages ', stated the
director
When industrial
discharged water is dumped
into rivers and lakes thermal
pollution of the aquatic
environment is enormous.
Some power generating
facilities may use over a half
million gallons of water per
minute
Groundbreaking
Bank officials, city and county officials and local clergy
members were on hand for the groundbreaking
ceremonies of the Milner Branch of the Lamar State
Bank. The Milner Office will be open as a full service
branch no later than the first of March.
