Bishop Cannon to give
inauguration invocation
At the invitation of President
elect Jimmy Carter and Senator
Howard W. Cannon, chairman
of the Joint Congressional
Committee on Inaugural
Cermonies, Georgia United
Methodist Bishop William R.
Cannon will deliver the
Invocation at the Inauguration
of Jimmy Carter as the 39th
President of the United States.
Bishop Cannon will join the
leaders of the nation on the
inaugural platform in one of the
historic moments in American
history as the first Georgian
ever to become president of the
United States is sworn into
office by the Chief Justice of the
United States Supreme Court.
Bishop Cannon is a native of
Dalton, and has been the
episcopal leader of Georgia
United Methodism since 1972.
The sixty-year old former
Dean of Candler School of
Theology at Emory University
Gordon News
Several non-credit courses for
winter quarter will begin at
Gordon Junior College on Jan.
17, 18, and 19. To register for
any of these courses, call the
Office of Community Services
at Gordon.
GUITAR
Guitar I and Cake Decorating
I will begin on Jan. 17. The
guitar course will be taught by
Harold Cartee, minister of
music at the First Baptist
Church in Griffin. Instruction
includes the nomenclature of
the guitar, basic chords,
strumming and the use of the
guitar as an accompanying
instrument. The class will meet
from 7 until 9 p.m. each
Monday for six weeks in the
music room of the First Baptist
Church in Griffin. The course
fee is $25.00 for students who
furnish a guitar and $35.00 if
Gordon furnishes the
instrument.
CAKE DECORATING
Cake Decorating I will be
taught by Mrs. Ruby Stahl at
her home on Dunlap Rd. in
Griffin. Class content includes
the art of icing cakes,
borderwork and flower making.
The class will meet each
Monday for six weeks. A
morning session meets from 9
until 11 a.m. The evening
session meets from 7 until 9
p.m. The cost is 25.00.
Pottery, Square Dancing 11,
Cake Decoarting 11, and
Speedreading all begin on Jan.
18.
Pottery will be taught by
Alan Parker at Gordon Junior
College on Tuesdays from 7
until 9 p.m. for six weeks. The
class is open to beginners and
advanced students. The cost is
S2O.
SQUARE DANCING
Square Dancing II will be
taught by Rhett Glover of
Griffin as a continuation of
basic Square Dancing I. The
class meets from 7 until 9 p.m.
on Tuesdays on School Rd. in
Sunnyside. The cost is $25.00 per
couple.

with President-elect Carter at
Christmas in 1969 just before
Carter was inaugurated as
Governor of Georgia.
CAKE DECORATING
Cake Decorating II will be

SPEEDREADING
Speedreading will be taught
by Dr. Jim Richards at Griffin
High School on Jan. 18,20, 25,
and 27 from 7 until 9 p.m.
Students will learn to improve
their reading rate and
comprehension. The cost is
$15.00.
