Drugs, Inc. at a special meeting
approved the merger of Eckerd
Drugs, Inc. into Jack Eckerd
Corporation.
The Federal Trade
Commission announced prior to
the vote that a motion to issue a
complaint and seek a court
injunction to stop the merger
failed.

Sewage sludge is a good
growth medium for
bermudagrass sod according to
Dr. Robert E. Bums, associate
professor of agronomy at the
Georgia Agricultural
Experiment Station in
Experiment.
Bums has found that solid
sludge from sewage treatment
plants has the necessary
characteristics for growing
grass sod.
“Sludge is lightweight, has
good water retention, proper
texture, and a supply of
nutrients,” Burns told an
audience at the joint annual
meetings of the American
Society of Agronomy, the Crop
Science Society of America and
the Soil Science Society of
America in Houston, Texas.
“Sod is in demand in large
cities for use around both
industrial and residential
complexes. Growing the sod
near these areas would
decrease transportation costs,

among all other waste treatment plants in Georgia in the
“Industrial Wastes Treatment” category to receive the
1977 “Outstanding Plant Operation Award” for its ex
cellence in treatment plant operation at the 45th Annual
Conference of the Georgia Water and Pollution Control
Association. Bob Morrlss (1) of the Association presented
the award to Leven Henderson, manager of quality
control at Pomona Products.
