modifications for the computer
resulted.

No. 1 Ma 2
1020 W. Taytor St. Memorial Drive
Division of Criminal Justice
Statistics, was developed with
crime statistics supplied by the
FBI.
According to Chris Herndon,
Director of Criminal justice
Statistics, law enforcement
agencies voluntarily submit
statistics to the FBI. The report,
therefore, does not include 100
percent of reported crimes. The
FBI Report and, hence, The
Crime In Georgia publications
include estimates of crime for
non-contributing agencies.
Property crimes showed the
highest rate of incidence,
however, with 1,794 cases
reported. This was the largest
incidence of the eight categories
of serious crime in Spalding
County which include murder,
rape, robbery, burglary,
larceny, assault, and auto theft.
The 1,794 property crimes
includes burglary, larceny,
and auto theft.
In Spalding County in 1975
there were 1,185 cases of
larceny, unlawful taking or
stealing property without the
use of force or fraud. It included
such crimes as shoplifting,
pocketpicking, thefts from
autos, thefts of auto parts and
bicycle thefts.
Auto theft is excluded, since it
is a separate offense.
I-arceny, the most prevalent
of all the major crimes,
experienced the largest
statewide increase.
There were 522 burglaries
reported in Spalding County in
1975. Burglary is defined by
the crime report as the unlawful
entry of a structure to commit a
felony or theft. The use of force
to gain entry is not required to
classify the act as a burglary.
Burglaries represent 37 percent
of the total number of property
crimes committed in Georgia.
Auto theft consisted of 87 in
Spalding County. Auto theft is
defined as the unlawful taking
or stealing of a motor vehicle.
The classification includes
attempts, although the taking
for temporary use of vehicles by
persons having lawful access to
them is excluded.
Auto thefts, representing a
total of 16,637 incidences in
Georgia, was the only property
crime for which Georgia
showed a decrease in 1975.
